lol 10minutes if it is nice to you.

You can use a small enough adjustable wrench. I used a 8 inch craftsman adjustable

I'm sure there's some one up in Boulder with a bike tool kit.

As I said in the other thread, pretty sure Clark or Roland has the exact BMW tool.

My adjustable wrench goes to 30mm.

Should it really be that hard?

If the wrench is skinny enough, grind it down with a dremel and make it fit? lol they are cheap tools

I've used Clark's tool when I did my fan clutch, it is soooo easy and he lives in Boulder. Just PM him and offer some quality beverages in exchange.

Just replaced fan clutch on an M42 and I used a Craftsman 32mm combo wrench that I bought. Wasn't too wide, but there is obviously more room in there with the M42. I looked locally for the bike tool/BMW-specific tool to rent and couldn't find anything. I also rented a kit from either Advance or Autozone, which I thought was the pulley holder, but turned out to be only wrenches. Anyway, the nut came loose using only the 32mm wrench with 1 or 2 taps from a hammer. No soaking, no torching. I ended up just returning the Craftsman wrench afterwards. Hopefully yours comes loose as easily.

How did you hold the pulley? Was the drive belt on? Mine committed suicide with the fan when the water pump tanked, so I'm going to try a large screw driver wedged in the pulley. Otherwise it just spins

The belt is gone. It jumped the pump pulley and got in the fan. Both are toast

??? It just rotates, there's basically no resistance. I can't get an impact effect.

Anyway, I was really looking for the 32mm wrench. They're pretty expensive and I will only need it this once (going fdm, spal fan). I've been trying a larger adjustable wrench and also a pair of locking pliers, but neither are long or narrow enough to orient vertically

Use the screwdriver technique. You put a screwdriver between two of the water pump bolts to jam it
