yep that depends on a LOT of things. put it this way, if I had a gun, I would have had a much greater chance of taking an easy clean shot than if I didn't have a gun.

So you are going to pull out a gun with tons of innocent bystanders running around in a dark place with tear gas? I am all for shooting down a murdering mother fucker but, that is really not the best course of action.

yep, if I felt like I would have had a good opportunity, I would have taken it.

Get the fuck out with everyone else. How can you expect to take an accurate shot without hitting a bystander with tear gas in your eyes?

Also, when people run out yelling there is a man shooting people, there is a chance they are going to think it's you even if you are trying to help.

Alright, stand up while blinded by tear gas, shoot all the other innocent people, then get shot yourself.

well if it was me, I would naturally tap into my ninja senses and reflexes, keeping a Clint Eastwood cool, and in slow motion, leap out sideways into the aisle and plug one in the dude's forehead, as my 9mm shell (still in slow motion) flies upwards in a graceful arc, flipping end over end, as the perpetrator crashes to the ground as the theater occupants continue to flee around him.

Isn't this whole discussion moot, since the shooter was wearing full body armor including throat and groin protectors. It was like he was going to have his last stand, then chickened out. Considering that, plus the firearm imbalance, I would say the odds of success would be extremely remote. No "emergency" goes according to plan. Chaos always rules. I think we are all fucking pissed at this pathetic act of personal disfunction, but the odds are against someone (illegally) "carrying" taking him out.

Also, why would you have your 3-year-old at the mid-night premier of Batman?

The thought of a bunch more concealed permits in the wake of this makes me shutter. I work with guys who have FFDO training (similar to Federal Air Marshals) who I don't trust carrying. I watch the slower ones like a hawk. The lowest common denominator that can get a concealed permit scares me just as much as those with criminal intent.

Bottom line is that guy is nothing more than pathetic. His stupid fucking personal issues (be they untreated mental illness, self esteem, or just becoming unhinged) resulted in the death, maiming, trauma, and suffering of the innocent. Fuck that guy. In a perfect world we would have all taken him out before he got a chance to hurt anyone.
                        JOY IS AN E30...

3 month old... even more disturbing. And a 6 year old was still too young... very disturbing too. You raise some valid points man. Dude definitely wasn't interested in dying, not yet at least, just needed attention.

And it seems that we are all doing a pretty good job of giving it to him...

                              after the fact....

the fact that his parents knew that something was up beforehand only goes to show that there was a serious problem and they neglected to do anything about it. Just because your kid is legally an adult, it doesn't mean that you're done with them.
