if you have the subframe out of the car, I have a tool that I had made that works great. way easier (and cleaner) than burning them out. It's lent out to another freind but I need to get it back.

I haven't yet pulled a rear subframe so I'm only talking "book knowledge" here but I was hoping to not have to pull the subframe all the way out. I read that you only have to drop the subframe a couple inches if you are using the BMW tool that is designed to work in the tight space.
Seems like if that is true you would save a ton of work. Am I on the right track?

yeah the BMW tool can do it without removing the subframe. Mine requires that you do. I was doing a bunch of other stuff at the same time so it made sense to drop the whole thing.
RoDo, roughly how much is said tool? I'm going to have to replace my bushings on the DD as the passenger side is creaking/groaning/squeeling at me right now.
If you get a line on a rental/loan I'd go halfsies.

They cost about $400 to buy. Hence the rental/loan search.
So far I have only found one guy that rents one and he is in Florida. He will ship it though so I am going that route. He is monty23psk here on r3v. He charges $50 a week (plus a damage deposit) to rent and I am gonna try and do 2 cars while I have it so it'll be in use the whole time.
There's a sort of local to Seattle option (Marysville) as well. A guy named Dan Patzer is an independent BMW mechanic with what looks like a nice shop (has a lift!) and the tool. His deal is he works with you and shows you how to do the job. Shop rate is $85/hr.
Good luck!

Gotcha. I am going to try and tool rental route and see how it goes. Your offer is much appreciated though, thanks.

if your other rental guy falls through, send me a PM.
I'll match his offer.
I'll take you up on that offer if I bite the bullet and replace the subframe bushings. Said tool makes it possible to not have to drop the subframe from the car completely then?
