you will remember me incorrectly then, as that was not me, haha. the guy with the D200 on the shotgun butt was "Miso Beno".

between that, my e30, and the e21, ive got plenty to do with my right hand while driving... in the e39, i can grope my girl instead.
i don't think the tranny swap is so easy on an e39 as it is for an e30, but i suppose it's possible. i understand what you mean about wanting the auto, though. I just plan on driving this car every day pretty much and I couldn't deal with having an automatic all the time. For what it's worth, the e39 manual is really easy to drive!

i'm kind of confused by what you said, haha. you saw an e39 on the roof of what now?

i agree that e39s are gorgeous. i think aside from the 8-series they might be the sexiest looking bmws ever (as much as i love the e30's looks, it isn't that sexy). i know i've been ogling them ever since they came out- especially the 01-03 models with the angel eyes and clear sidemarkers/turn signals.

I'm in love with the e39 m5. I too have dreamed of one ever since they came out.

            I'd love to rock a 540i or m5 someday...

an m5 would be awesome. but with that said, i was just looking up the price of a rotors/pads kit for my 530i from turner motorsport, and the price was about $350-$400. the price for the m5 was $950! ha, eff that shit.

Check out what a clutch kit costs! There is a reason why I am very careful with the stock one ;)

Yeah, that's why even if I could afford one I dunno if I'd get one... I'd have to have lots of money that I literally felt okay with throwing away.

                      Funny, that's how I felt when I bought the e30 :p New EMS + boost isn't cheap.

                      btw, here's mine:

Yeah, I agree. But as a DD and the little amount of money I put into it, when I do it's a choice so I don't feel so bad.

With a high maint car I'd have to know that 1 or 2 grand of repairs could come up randomly and consistently. At that point, you can save and get something newer? Or more reliable (acura?).

all I can say is that mine has been pretty reliable and cheap to keep running. It's my daily driver / beater, and the only expensive item I've replaced was the rear which was $700 installed for a used diff. That was at 140k miles. The water pump went at 145k, I replaced motor & transmission mounts myself at 144k (~$130), I replaced the CSB past 150k ($100), and a few other cheap things here and there like the upper radiator hose. I'm about 100 miles out from 159k now. Overall, I can't complain. It's a pretty fast, comfy ride for daily use. I wish I could clean up the exterior, but I work in and around DC & Baltimore, so it gets dinged up pretty badly. I bought the car almost 2 years ago with 135k miles and have probably put a bit under 2k into total.

BTW, it put this down on 89 octane at 154k miles :) Bone stock, down to the exhaust & intake.

Yeah, 540is seem pretty quick. Perhaps not as unreliable as I had assumed. (read some iffy things on the cooling systems)

Maybe I can own one someday! *crosses fingers for job out of college*

Cooling system reliability is largely the same as the I6 models. It's not a big deal if you pay attention... I think my water pump was original when it died and my radiator is really freaking old yet still working fine. I'm a big of fan of "don't fix what's not broken." I've seen a lot of people replace parts with cheaper aftermarket reproductions that fail quickly. I just peek under the hood every now and then and make sure everything is fine. Most of this stuff won't cause catastrophic failure unless the driver fails to pay attention. I also have my own theory that broken/worn motor mounts contribute to radiator failure as I noticed that the engine stresses the radiator necks a LOT if it's allowed to move.
