I wouldn't ever buy a car if I didn't have a license. The e30 is pretty easy to work on also.

Forgive my ignorance, but is it legal to drive a manual with a prosthetic leg? I would have to assume it's your left?

Why not buy it before you can drive it. I would set it up with the parental units that if they caught you driving it before the license that they could take the keys to it away until you had your license.

It could be nice to knock out a few projects on a car while you don't have to drive it everyday and rely on it. Hell, I need a second car so I can get an engine swap under way... You could do an engine swap and still ride the bus to school.

How old did you say you are anyways? You can get a permit in Washington at 15 & 1/2, assuming you are enrolled in drivers ed. 16 and you don't even have to be enrolled in drivers ed. or something like that...

had my first car before i had my license. that way i learned to drive stick before i got my license, so that when i finally did get it i could drive.

Im 99% it is prefectly legal, I don't see why it wouldn't be. If it is, Ill take this crap to court, because there is no reason that amputees shouldn't be able to drive what they want.

Ive had my permit for 4 monthes now. Driving isn't hard at all, like HellzMindPlaya said I think it would be great to have a car to work on without worrying about having to have it drivable. My buddy, who's now 44, got his first bug at like 14 from his Dad. It was a real project, but he said by the time he was 16 he had a bug that lowered and looked "california custom".

And Luke I didn't mean it like that.

I was just curious because I know that a lot of people with neuropathy (decreased sensation) have their license revoked if their family and/or physician feels that they're unsafe. It has to do with not being able to feel the brake pedal well enough to stop in an emergency.
But if it's your left leg with the prosthesis, I don't see how that could be an issue. Not being perfect with the clutch isn't going to endanger anybody.

It's my right. But I already have a plan to move the pedals around to make it left footed.

Haha I'm going to weld a arm on to the clutch pedal arm and angle it over to where the gas is. Then just take another pedal and put it on that. Clutch done.

The gas is merely a cable, so it can be mounted anywhere... like infront of the original clutch pedal :)

Well if they gave you a permit, I guess it must be legal haha.

There was an amputee on another board (I think it was unofficialbmw, but its been several years) who was looking into a sequential gearbox. I don't remember what happened with it though.

I mean they do make pedal kits to move the gas over to the left of the brake (for people with bad right feet), so this concept of mine is nothing new

Though I hope you weren't being serious about being 25

                                Nope.

                                Life is work.

Start young, but do not let school suffer.

Nothing is worse than being unable to go further in life due to lack of education.
