I'd call DHL to do it. I've shipped a pallet via ocean freight. It took two months and I had to find a customs broker, pay local fees in the LA port as well as PDX, had to do a bunch of other stuff... it wasn't worth the hassle for the $ I saved. Just do DHL air. It'll take a week and they'll handle everything.

Is it okay to use a socket to get off the transmission external torx bolts?

Use the right tool man! Its an inverted torx socket IIRC.

Trust me trying it and stripping it will cost you more time than you want to spend.
