New to the PDX area on business relo, need guidance on an exhaust shop to finish 24v

My name is Steve, I just arrived yesterday in Portland for my first year working for an aerospace manufacturer. My plant is down in Clackamas right near the "town center." I'm originally from Philadelphia's suburbs.

I'm a long-time BMW fan and finally was able to buy a clean '91 318i in alpine white in March. In April I picked up an S50 but couldn't work on it until after graduation. With barely enough time before my relocation, I finished swapping an S50 w/ rebuilt ZF320 just last Friday. Luckily it fired right up and runs great without issue. I haven't really opened it up much, it's only running open (eBay shorty) headers at this point. Shippers picked it up yesterday, it will probably be in transit for 10 days or so.

I'm currently in a Nissan Sentra rental car (meh) and will be until my E30 gets its exhaust sorted out. I am in need of suggestions on local exhaust shops capable of doing some fabrication. I bought a UUC system U off r3vlimited that is riding out across the country inside the car. I'll need that to be mated up with the headers with some sort of midpipe or extension of the eBay midpipes. The headers look fine relative to the subframe and sway bar, but the rear bank collector points tangent to the LCA bushing/lollipop. That will likely need to be cut and rewelded in another orientation, but I'm fairly certain it'll work great after that. The catback has hangers already on it for an E30. Any tips? I'm obviously on a budget but I need quality and I need it to be done asap, and I know it's going to be an in-depth job.

Also looking for a good reasonable body shop for minor work - exhaust outlet needs to be cut for dual tips, and I'd also like an iS lip to be fitted.

Welcome to the area! I have all my exhaust work done at a shop called Exhaust Specialties, but they are over here in Tualatin, so might not be your closest option. That car looks really clean

Call Midas on NE 82nd, see if Robin is still there.

When you bring the car, have a cold 12 pack of Coke with you, take the sodas into the shop, don't leave them with Robin.

Welcome! If you are working for PCC, they are a super company to work for. There is a great shop in Canby (about 15 miles from Ckackamas) that I would recommend for custom exhaust work. If you live in the metro area, you will need to run a cat to pass DEQ and they can install that as well. I'll get the number if you wish to talk to the owner first.

Thanks for the welcome and suggestions! I'll probably call around on Friday and get some estimates.

I am working for PCC, they have been great so far and are taking good care of us recent graduates.

I'll only be here for a year, so I'm not concerned with passing emissions. Still, I will be looking into getting a cat just to avoid the hassle in the future. If it's not too terribly expensive I'll probably put one on as long as I can retain a true dual setup.

By law, they have to install one. Exceptions for race cars not used on the street. Hope you enjoy your stay here.

PCC has one of the best welders I have ever seen (I grew up in a body shop, Dad was a bodyman for 50 years, I know what good welding is) on staff, as a welding instructor.

Pay that dude to do it, if he will even take the money. It will likely be a class project, but the work I have seen is stellar.

They have lifts, there is an awesome bunch of guys out there still.

If you end up needing a name, I will see if I can find the guy. Look for a bad ass Diesel Land Cruiser with a skid plate from hell. I cannot remember his name, but I know him through Joe Funks old roomie, Brent or Brant or whatever the hell his name is, my old brain cannot remember.

                  Find it, find him.

                  Good luck

I think they are referring to Precision Castparts Corp. Luke. :) My dad used to be in management for them off Johnson Creek facility.

I would stick with the Canby route that Keith recommended. If you want some cats, I have a set of 95 m3 cats that are in good shape that I could get to you for 150.

And above all, welcome to PDX! I am about 5 minutes from that Clackamas location. Maybe see you at a meet or two? I will be having a bbq in a month or two.

Sounds good. PM me some pics of the cats if you get a chance. Are they dual and separate?

I hope to make it out to all the local meets, and I'm surely down for a bbq. I'll keep an eye out in this PNW forum now.

Congrats on PCC! Fantastic company to work for. +1 for Exhaust specialties, just make sure you get Jeff to do the work (and only Jeff), he'll hook you up.

Exhaust Specialties has a location on the east side of the river from downtown Portland, but I'm guessing that's not where Jeff is? Should I stick with Tualatin if I go with them?

Also, is the Canby shop called Canby Muffler?

Jeff works at all of them. Just call and see when he'll be at the one in SE. He's there every week.
