What would you do? (Diamondshart paint content)

Ok, so the paint on the hood and roof of Diamondshart is terrible. Complete clearcoat failure. I dislike looking at it. The rest of the car is pretty good, though. What would r3v do?

Option 1: DIY paint roof & hood. I've done this before, cheap Omni base/clear, turns out fine. Won't match 100%. Did the hood & sunroof panel on my SPG in 2007 and it still looks good. Bad part here is time & effort involved, which I don't have a lot of these days. Setting up the garage as a paint booth takes time & effort. Cost is probably $100-150 in materials.

Option 2: Maaco special. Right now they have a special for $399. I wouldn't have "OEM BMW paint" on it anymore but at least the car would match. If I did the prep myself I'm not too worried about quality. Significantly less time involved here than #1.

Option 3: Something else? Anybody know of a rattle can that matches DS well? (I have a can of Rustoleum that 95% matches my Saab's metallic paint, so I had to ask). Roller on some flat black? Kill it with fire?

Maaco isn't bad if you prep yourself!

You can prolly even get them lower than 400.

You are gonna regret going to maaco most people I know who got a paint job there were disappointed, it looks like a child did the paint job. Do it yourself or save some money and get a good paint job

        Paint the whole car.

It all depends on what you want the car to look like and how much you ultimately want to spend.

Prep the car yourself, buy the materials you want and have maaco shoot it. Best way IMO.

Paint it yourself or save up for a proper paint job. If you do it yourself and aren't happy, you'll have insight as to how to do it better, or you'll be happy with it. Or, pay a proper shop to do a job that you'll be happy with.

I think Maaco will just leave you disappointed and your wallet $400 lighter.

Yeah. I'm just being lazy, pretty much. Every paint job I've done turns out better than my expectations, I just hate all the prepwork involved (turning garage into paint booth, etc)

Good deal, but a bit far to drag a car just for paint. The gas alone will offset any savings these days!

I would save a litte extra $$ and get a quote at another body shop you might have to wait in order to save some $$ but it's your daily right?. If money is a issue then do it yourself.
