    318i painted

Jusst back from Eugene where we picked up my 318i. I did all the prep work and Maaco cleaned it, sanded it with 400 da, recleaned, shot with sealer, three coats of color, three coats of clear. $800 out the door and honest to God it looks perfect. I couldn't be happier. 5yr warranty but I will garage the car and will take good care of the paint etc. Will see how it hold up but they use Dupont paint and the initial product is exceptional. Now I get to put her back together. Keeping this 73 yr old young and excited.

              prep work for paint

First, I removed all the bumpers, mirrors, trim, etc. Replaced drivers side fender. Sanded small dents etc down to bare metal then light coats of bondo. Then primer. Tons of tiny rock chips on hood and front. Filled with pinhole putty. Then 400 wet'dry sanded over whole car. Took my time and went over several times to make sure nothing missed. Then off to paint. They matched the factory original paint color since the jams were nearly perfect. This was originally an Arizona car. The interior is like new. The color is I believe Brilliantrot. The more orange of the two reds. My son's is the more blueish of the reds. Thanks for the kind words

                            more progress

Got the bumpers, mirrors, and lights installed. As I recall, the color is Brilliantrot. I'll check for sure in the morning. Ordered new rondells tonight and hoping to find a source for all the trim fasteners. My son is sending me his antenna, bilsteins, sport springs, euro headlights, fogs, and other assorted goodies. I'm a very lucky guy. Thanks for the cudo's. I'll keep you folks updated.
