    Transmission Question

So the engine is in the car and i am in the process of putting the clutch/flywheel back on the block. My question is this. The engine came from an automatic and there was a spacer ring between the flywheel and the crank, there is a dowel pin on the engine that this covers perfectly. Do i need this piece? It seems to me with it in place the flywheel bolts do not have enough threads. I've searched but anytime someone asks this question people start taking about the ring that is on the front of the flywheel that distributes the load, this on is on the BACK. Does anyone know if i need this spacer or not?

    Thanks guys,

    -Kevin

I'll be doing a 5-speed swap soon. I wish I could help you out.

Courtesy of the guys at www.slidewaysonline.com As always if you have any suggestions for other well put together DIY email me at rytis@rtsauto.com I also have another guide up for swapping auto to manual. To put it bluntly, this is not an easy task. Our swap (Viet and I) took roughly 7 hours not including pedal installation

The automatic spacer and 5 speed spacer are two different thicknesses, and you do need to use one.

I didn't do any measurements, but the automatic one was clearly more than twice as thick.

Don't need the spacer. Mine didn't even come with one.

        Edit: I did a auto-manual swap btw

Yah this spacer is way to thick, could only get about a turn or two on the flywheel bolts. However when i take it off the back of the flywheel contacts my POS ireland windage tray. So im gonna have to trim that down, unless i can find a manual spacer. Thanks for all the input guys!
