Yes, I am the candy man of E30s. The exhaust valves were no good on the head but the bare head passed the leakdown test. Change valves (exhaust only) and the camshaft needs either replacement or regrind. I was going to go with a 288 regrind then the head will be flawless. The pistons skirts are messed up but the bare block is ok. Have mixed feelings about it. Parting it out not an issue the head will be am issue, if you bought it either I'd have to build it, you would or a machine shop would. Last 885 head I bought was $350 so keep that in mind. I'm down with letting it out.Anti sigpic StanceComment

Exhaust Valve 072 06013 685 Quant. 6 $18.17 each = $109.02
Head Gasket Set 206 06024 071 Quant. 1 $61.95
So again to get into a verified good cylinder head is going to run you into that range. Your other option is bring me another head in trade that doesn't have valves that are messed up and we can swap them apart and cut some of that out of there.
I hate to keep harping on it, but these things do cost money and valve trains are a weak point in this engine swap. Do you have an old head by chance?
Before you go thinking I'm crazy I spent damn near $900 building the head up myself so I wouldn't have to worry about it as a weak point in the system. Good mechanical and machine work never was cheap.Anti sigpic StanceComment

No don't feel bad for drilling it in. Any advice is welcome. And I don't have a spare head at the moment there is one I could grab for cheap but I know its been sitting outside for a couple months. Is there anything that can rust on the head or will it being outside not really affect it?Comment

No, not for our purposes. Anything that's important is going to be aluminum. The valve retainers and springs are steel and will rust but those you can source from any I motor and possibly salvage depending on if it was covered or now. How much does the guy want for it? How exposed to the elements was it?Anti sigpic StanceComment
