Is it in an E36 still or in an E30? Really would prefer an already OBD1 (or OBD1 converted motor) because I simply just don't have time to do the conversion!

Why convert it, if it's complete, just send the DME off and have it reflashed. $250-400 depending on who you go with. OBDII means a simple eBay Bluetooth adapter and lots of benefits via a smartphone.Comment

I'm all for young kids coming to this site to read, ask sensible questions and learn... it is what a community is all about. But when said kid starts handing out retarded advice and trying to make it sound as if he knows what he's talking about, then I get annoyed.
Your "words of wisdom" should be kept to yourself on subjects that you are not in the know. Thanks.

And I didn't know about those bluetooth OBD tools/apps until reading your post and getting curious. That is a pretty cool/useful little gadget and I'm going to have to get one for myself.
So Farbs, do you own a bluetooth adapter? I assume you have the real deal (Peake or other) tool for the shop, but I figure you might have gotten one for the novelty. If so, did you get it on Ebay? Do you know brand, or is it just one of the cheapo ones? I see they are on ebay for under $15 shipped for the cheap China made ones (LINK). From what I can tell even the cheap ones seem to work well, and there is 14 day return policy if it doesn't work (buyer pays return shipping, so it might be easier/faster/barely more expensive to just roll the dice and buy another one.
Part deux: Again assuming you've got one, which app do you use to interface with it? For Android, 'Torque' seems to be the most popular and the Pro version is only $5. I'm sure there are a bunch of PC applications that'll interface with it as well -- and they may be a bit more capable as the phone app.
Overall it looks awesome and I'm going to order one of the bluetooth adapters tomorrow.Last edited by TwoJ's; 07-02-2012, 11:44 PM.

ELM327 anything, and any of the assorted free Android apps is what I use for quick code pulls/scans before I pull the car into the shop. I have a few IBM T30's that I either have serial cables and copies of BMW DIS and SSS on, and a T30 with a Yellowhead GT1 clone reader that I use. I'd love to drop the 12k for an AutoLogic, but for now, what I have gets me by.
I have a cheap one, I think I paid about $35 with shipping.Comment

We shall see. My preferred choice is an S50, but if the right S52 comes along, I wouldn't turn it away.
I really only have one full day a week to work on this (I work full time now,) so that's why I'd rather an OBD1 motor, just for time's sake.
