My e30 won't start... Need cheap starter asap

So... when I usually start my car I have to turn my key back one click to keep my starter from continuing to spin. Last night I had one too, many at a friends get together & my keys where taken, one friend drove my baby home and I rode with another. Long story short they said that my car was smoking a little when they got off the freeway, which it never does, they also said they didn't turn the key back but they dont think they heard any word noises...

My car has a newish battery, and even with jumper cables the only response I get as of this morning is.a faint double click when I turn the key, not the normal loud click of a low battery trying to start. I'm almost positive they destroyed my started by driving with it engaged...

any ideas and/or cheap starters? I need my daily driver driving!

Better hope they didn't destroy your flywheel as well if that's the case.

Depends what you need I have a 91 318is with a m20b25 swap my plan is to do a facelift on my eta and pull the motor and tranny and drop into a 2002 and part the rest of the car out
But plans can always change I would rather drop a running m10 in than rebuild the m20

I can get you a brand new starter (not bosch reman) for $90, tomorrow. Sounds like you need a ignition switch too.

*shrugs* 99% of the time when I have this stuff ready for free you folks are in the Seattle Metro area. Stop breaking your cars up there guys. FYI a new Bosch from Carquest / Worldpac is $110 last time I bought one.

So... I swapped my starter after work yesterday... Connect the battery and the writing on the starter starts to smoke before I even turn the key... I sm sure I connected the writing right because I took pictures.

Could the starter running non stop when my friend drive my car have caused wiring to overheat and short somewhere? I need help, I need a way to get back and forth to work... Any ideas? Is my wiring harnesses fucked?

If the wires burnt you would see visible signs at the starter, sounds like you have a bad ignition switch
