    Loose vanos cover bolts....the effff

Has anyone ever had issues with their m5x/s5x vanos housing bolts coming loose?

I cracked open the valve cover to replace the valve cover gasket to find my vanos cover held on by the 5 bolts that were almost backed out to the point of grenading the engine! (literally, the picture shows how i found the bolts)

Its not shown here, but there is a bolt near the bottom of the cover that i CANT reach for the life of me. Do you guys recommend removing the vanos, and tightening down the cover bolts w/ locktite, or is there some magical way to get a wrench in there to get that badboy nice and proper?

and if so, which locktite should i go with?

    HELP!!

I'm guessing they weren't properly torqued to begin with. Blue Med would be a good thread holder for those.

Take it all apart. Rebuild the Vanos while it's out. Do it right.

This. Did Erik include the spare VANOS unit or was that the one he installed?

Haha ya, pretty scary. I guess the general consensus on m5x/s5x is that those vanos cover bolts can back out due to the oil pressure build up, and overall vibration the engine produces.

You totally should. It's worth the 5 min to take off your VC just to be sure.

Haha no worries man. I'm not pointing fingers. I posted this to get a general idea of what I should do. Looks like I'll be removing the unit, and locktiting the shit out of the bolts lol.

                        Someone help this guy out!

Call around your local shops as well as the usual Shucks/Oreillys'/ETC. Maybe hit up Simon and see if he can link you up with KDmotorsports. Maybe he'll rent you the tools? Wish I could help man, my coworkers are NAZI'S about their tools as they should be. That's how they make their money!

Damn, that's fucked up man! I almost don't want to say who the last person was that touched that... :/ I'm glad you spotted it in time too. All I can say is that I didn't put my hands on that so I didn't under-torque them personally.

If I recall, he had a shop do something with the vanos unit...I could be wrong but I was there with Brad when he bought the car and I could have sworn Erik had an independent shop do something with that vanos unit.
