    ^ This.

My wife and I have learned to live on an incredibly low amount of money.

We were forced to though, a new small business doesn't bring home much cash, and she does hair for a living. Still, I am happy to have learned how to live poor. This way when the income does go up, more will go into savings.

Sooo many complain about being "broke" all the time but pay $100 a month for their smartphone, another $100+ for cable/high speed internet, eat out at restaurants all the time, go out every weekend, etc.

Most people feel "broke" because they are living beyond their means. Dump your data plan, cancel your cable, drop to the lowest tier internet, plan your meals, drink less when going out.

Cool advice and perspectives going on in this thread.

I'm not the best at budgeting/saving money, but pretty damn good at spending it. Been working hard the last 6 months to be better with my finances and budgeting and it seems to be working. Slowly but surely.

My best advice is don't be a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles and tell yourself no. I'm an impulsive buyer and when I get my head set on something... it's mine. I've been learning that sometimes you just have to tell yourself it's not a good idea and move on. Much easier said than done, but it's much easier to rationalize when you have the "money saving" mindset.

Get an aquarium, spend years learning how to grow rare hard to propagate aquatic plants, sell them on forums.

I bring in 500$ extra cash a month doing this and I only spend 10 minutes a day testing and fertilizing. And an hour 1 day a week filling/shipping orders.

            That roughly 60$ an hour

mint.com is a great way to assess your financial situation.

It'll make it clear within a month where all your money's going, and from there it's a simple matter of deciding what you want to change.

I'll be the first to admit I definitely spend way too much on going out. But, one of my main new years resolutions was to reduce my monthly cost of living and I have. I reduced my cost of living by at least 700 a month. Thats a lot extra cheese to have.

As to the OP's original request, there is a ton of ways to scrap together extra cash. For serious though the best advice I can give is go on craigslist and look under gigs. I've done it a few times when I was younger and its usually some super fun event where you help out and you make few bucks under the table.

                  Heres a good one: http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/evg/3739860209.html

Also I should ask do you have a job atm?

another way to make some easy cash is to sign up for product testing for microsoft.

they comp you with your choice of free retail software for your 1-3 hours of time spent testing and reviewing products. turn around and sell it on craigslist or ebay for easy money.

sure do have a job working as a CNA at the hospital, trying to get into nursing school. I guess what my main request was, was what you guys have been giving advice on. I think i need to more budget and live cheaper rather than make a ton more. Thanks for all the good advice

Definitely an easy way to go. I'm probably going to cancel cable because I just barely use it. Also I always bought the fastest possible high speed internet (on principal) but honestly I don't really need it so I'll probably drop that down to one of the lower tiers. Should cut my comcast bill in half.

Just like going faster... You can increase the horsepower, or add lightness :p
