Front License plate rules in Canada

    Hey R3Vers,

Does anyone know the rules in Canada regarding front license plates? My brother is planning to visit Vancouver in July and will be using my car which doesnt have the front plate.

Do the border officers care? Will they not allow him in the country without it? I can try to find the front plate but might have lost it. :(

    Thanks!

That is a very good question.
I don't remember if i ever been asked for front plate at all.
It should be fine, as long as he answers all of the questions short and simple without talking too much or too loud.
Maybe start answering with No habla Ingles, if he think he should from the get go :)

Front plate is a state law, not sure if the border patrol enforce state laws or only Federal laws. Even if they can't give you a ticket they can call someone that can.

As in WA. I'm fairly certain BC, CND won't give two waffleswaffleswaffleswaffless whether or not he has a plate.

That's like saying I drove my car here from FL and wonder if I can get pulled over for not having a front plate. FL doesn't even issue front plates.

as someone from Vancouver Island in BC, Canada i know for fact they will not give two shits. yes it is the law for us to have plate on the front (which i also do not have) they only enforce it on local BC plates really, no worries over foreigners

                          You should be fine.

For example Ontario requires a front plate but Quebec does not. Cars registered in Quebec can drive in Ontario without a front plate.

It seems like this law in Canada is seldomly enforced which is good. This isnt for my E30 but rather our X5 which i havent had a plate on for years. Cops dont look at SUVs front license plates that much apparently.

Thanks! I think i'll let my bro go and wing it. If he has any issues, i'll just put the plate in the trunk.

                            Thanks fellas!
