        POS=Positive

        You should not be trying to jumpstart anything or be anywhere near a car if you don't know how to jump start one and don't even know the simplest of auto abbreviations.

          More than likely fried the inline fuse when you hooked the leads up backwards. Battery could now be toast as well.

            Yeah dude.

            If it's in the trunk, look at the cables on the battery. One is going to be very short and directly bonded to the chassis. It's probably brown. That's the negative terminal. That's where your black jumper lead goes. Not the other way.

                Never use the battery cable colors to hook up the battery.

                Always make sure you are connecting pos to pos, neg to neg, with the pos and neg symbols on the battery terminals.

                    The only way this happens is if the polarities are reversed. You fried your shit dude. I hope the damage isn't too bad.

                      My E30's battery wiring has reddish cable for the ground, and black cable for the positive. Always check the terminal markings...

                          There is a chance that the battery was internally shorted (which is why it needed a jump), and OP did in fact connect the jumper cables properly, but since the battery is internally shorted, it acted essentially like connecting the jumper cable clips at the dead battery side to each other. That would put a tremendous amount of amperage across the wire and melt the cables.

                          Let's give OP the benefit of the doubt for now.

                          OP, take the battery to an auto parts store and ask them to test the battery. If (when) you buy a new battery, and install it in your e30, hopefully everything will work. If you still have no power, then there is a fuse in the main battery positive cable that is probably blown. That fuse is within a foot or so (iirc), from the positive terminal, covered in that black heat shrink style insulation.

                            Or if the jumper cables were the $9.99 specials from walmart they might have been ridiculously small gauge wire...

                              That's what I was going to say about mine as well. So I always double check it because the colors don't match my jumper cables or other cars pos/neg colors.

                                ya he connected them wrong. i went to help op and the ground cable looks reddish, and could easily be confused for + if you are in hurry and dont know what your doing. i dont know if his battery is ok or not but my guess is that its cooked along with the inline fuse.
