UPDATE: Timing Belt Snapped. Car broke down, downtown kirkland

Was cruising really slow in downtown kirkland and the car died. I was lowish on fuel but my dad brought about 3 gallons and it's still not starting. If it was my timing belt (which is due) I would hear it, right? My dad and I think it's either that or the fuel pump.

Do you hear the pump turn on once the key is in the on position?

Where is the pump located? What does it sound like?

My dad tried listening for it but it's pretty loud here in downtown. And we're not exactly e30 geniuses.

When you turn the key, the starter spins perfectly, but we looked in the engine through the oil cap hole and nothing is turning in there. Is that normal?

The first pump is located in the tank. Just under the seat on the passenger side in the rear.
The other pump is located underneath the car on the drivers side towards the rear tire.

I don't hear anything coming from there right now. If someone knows if stuff is supposed to be moving in the engine while the starter is spinning, that would help. I really hope it's the fuel pump.

do you mean the engine is turning over (cranking)?

the second part of that post isnt' good, esp if the engine was actually cranking over (starter sounds like it usually does when starting car)
If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

It's a higher pitched noise, which I assume to be the starter. The engine is not turning over

If it just goes "WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRR", you lost the belt.

I think it's the belt. The engine doesn't turn over for sure. Uuuuuuuggggggggghhhhhhhh

take a socket to the crank pully and turn it will you have the oil fill cap open, have someone look inside, if you see the rockers move as they should your belt is fine

If the crankshaft is turning without a belt wouldn't it be pretty apparent that a couple of the pistons and valves are interfering; noise, broken rockers, etc?

When you run the starter does it actually sound like its turning over the engine; does it sound like it always has? Or has the noise changed, like a higher frequency noise?

If its just a high pitch noise and doesn't sound like any part of the engine is turning, it would be the solenoid on the starter is bad.

Would a video help? I don't think the engine is turning over. When i
The car died, I was rolling like 5mph, heard a click, and then dead. The click wasn't very loud, just the last thing I heard.
