Looking for tuning help in PDX

Hey guys, I'm absolutely bashing my head against the wall ( , of course) trying to get this stupid Miller stuff running well enough to drive my car even around the block. The tl;dr of it all is that I'm looking for someone (perhaps a fellow a r3v member) in the Portland area who might be willing to swing by and spend a few hours with me helping to get this thing sorted. I don't mind compensating you for your time, if you know what you're doing.

The long-and-short is that I'm facing terribly rich and rough cold starts, bucking and misfiring on acceleration, and lean WOT conditions. It pretty much renders that car undriveable, even though I'm working off pretty good base maps. I've had some friends over (Abe, Josh, Andrew) who were of huge help with some of the mechanical bits and I'm super thankful, but none of us have experience tuning things like this. So this is where my appeal for help comes in; I can't find any obvious flaws in the base maps that would cause problems this sever, so I need someone with more experience in tuning fuel and ignition to take a look and help me out.

If anyone out here is willing to lend a hand, get in touch. I'd greatly appreciate it.

p.s. Yes, I've tried calling around to local tuning shops to see if anyone can help out; they don't want to touch the Miller stuff with a 20' pole. I understand why, and MS may be in my future, but for now I'd at least like to get this thing driveable even if it's not making maximum power.

If I can get my old laptop to fire up, I can send you my old maps if you'd like. Also, what platform(xp or virtual) are you using to run the miller program?

I'm running XP. If you can possibly get your old maps, that would be hugely helpful. Were you using one of their MAFs as well? If so, which one?

Has anyone tried using a live tuning program such as TunerPro? Is it compatible with the Miller WAR chip, i.e. can I attach my laptop to the ECU through the chip and run it as an emulator?

Already working on it, but it would be nice to at least have this thing driveable for a few weeks this summer :)

I wasn't running a MAF but it'll be a good start for you to fine tune. I'll try to get my old laptop to load up tonight.

Have you got in contact with miller? It might be worth you time and money to trailer it up to their Washington based shop, I know they don't have a dyno on site yet but they will tune it for you if you rent a local dyno. They are usually pretty good about communicating and could probably get you on the right track by street tuning.

I have a few ms2 maps from my brothers m30 gt35 setup, they are all 18 psi and pretty rich at that.. Spitfireefi.com would be worth a call as well, they are based out of Bellingham but both tuners are working out of the Portland area right now. Spitfire should have a bunch of single coil m20 tunes and a few m30 tunes for megasquirt. Copying it over would be the problem, it just seems like miller has a ton of tunes for these by now.

I'm going to have to check out your build thread for any other input. Good luck!

As far as I can tell now (after speaking to Miller and doing lots of research) 99% of my problems are due to the fact that my older "Gen 3" 2.5" MAF is not compatible with any of their current tunes. Brody and Dan both told me the only way I was going to get this thing running on a WAR chip was to upgrade to their newest 4" MAF, which runs $400.

I've been sent tunes by lots of people who said they worked great for them. They don't run for s**t on my car. After eliminating every mechanical possibility I can think of, I'm forced to agree that the issue is the older MAF being incompatible. Granted I did purchase it in 2010 and it was designed for n/a engines, not boost.

So do I spend $400 on a new MAF for a system that everyone says is inferior, or $650 for a PnP MS2 system that had the best support, flexibility, and reputation in the community? I think you can tell where I'm going with this....
