    ATTN: WA folks

    Hey everyone,

This is my first time posting here with a new, more official username, but I'm not new to R3V ;)

If you have an early e30, old car, or know anyone with an old car, I have something I think you are going to like!

If you wish to run a vintage license plate on your car you will need a tab corresponding to the year of your car, but they are very difficult to find and often quite expensive. This form of collector plate is for any car older than 30 years.

I have started producing reproduction tabs for your vintage license plates so you can run them on your vintage car! Simply find the correct license plate style, purchase a tab, and you're good to go!

You can find them here along with more photos and information:

      Toby,

That's definitely a warranted concern, but these are 100% legal! Now, if they were 2016 tabs I could see an issue...

In fact, the WA DOL suggested I made reproductions when I was searching for period-correct tabs for my 2002 about a year ago and nothing was turning up. The license plate has to be an original, but the tabs can be originals or reproductions.

If anything, these tabs will allow more people to run collector plates, thereby giving the state more revenue!

if your lucky( which I have done in the past) I have used my heat gun or even a hair dyer and pulled nice vintage tabs off plates I've bought..( 50's and 60's Washington plates) some plates will have plenty of tabs just placed over other tabs year after year..
        it's just a ETA !

Not to steal your thread or anything...

But what's the ruling like on getting classic plates.

Can you buy a matching set of originals and use them? Or do you have to have the ones that came with your car...

It's not super clear on the DOL site, so let me spell it out here:

            Steps:
            1. Register your car as a collector vehicle and get a collector plate ($14 total in WA)
            2. Purchase at least 1 period correct plate (only need 1)
            3. Purchase a tab with the year of your car
            4. Put the tab on the plate
            5. Take the plate into the DOL and have them register it to your car
            6. Drive away happy!

just a heads up, once you register a car with YOM plates... check the law...there are restrictions placed on vehicles with YOM plates(I know myself and few others have been warned).. Haven't had a ticket yet...

Could you expand on this a little?

All registered collector vehicles have restrictions set on them, Year of Manufacture plates or not. Basically the car can't be a daily driver, which difficult to enforce, (if stopped you could say that you're tuning the carb or something like that). That's about it.
