    E30 starter removal

So fed up with this thing I'll give someone $25 and some food to drop the starter for me. In the middle of a 5-speed swap I'm wasting too much damn time trying to get it out. Located in Mukilteo.

    Car is a 1991 325i

Extensions and a universal joint are your friend. Power tools are helpful, too.

I came at mine from the front. Had someone holding the bolts in place under the car and used extensions to come at it. Worked for me and maybe worth a shot.

I don't know why, but this seemed infinitely harder on my late model car. More stuff in the way?

I removed the intake and weaved some extensions to the starter nuts on the engine side. Then from under the car I was able to put a 2nd ratchet on the torx bolt to hold it in place. With my other hand I could easily reach up into the engine bay to get access to the ratchet on the bolt/engine side.

I ended up using about 1.5ft of extensions and this placed the ratchet just behind the alternator.
