Ya it was great! 60mph sweeping curves, 30mph hairpins, and a nasty dropoff where I bottomed out my front suspension haha.

The Route (203 mi) Going in a clockwise direction. Although next time, I'll just go to Detroit Lake and then double back. The rest of the drive was bleh.:

I used to love the drive to Timber, any of the roads around the coastal range are pretty sweet. When I first learned to drive, my pops would take me out on the old Columbia hwy., it's the best way to learn (especially if you are rowing gears!)

Though one of the most fun drives I have done as of late, was in May on Maui, it's the OTHER road to Hana. It's got some long stretches with slight rises that are fun at speed, plus some cool turns that remind of the Ice Road Truckers when they were in India, and a huge section of straight gravel, single lane road! Needless to say, I beat the hell out of the rental car. Hana was a let down though...

Dead Indian Memorial road is a pretty intense route... lots of sharp corners. It is pretty much built on to a cliff though so you gotta watch out that you don't lose traction.

I only lived in portland for 4 months so I barely got around. But I did see a couple of these highlights, including the east side of st helens.

But you locals are sort of missing the point that 84 is the most scenic highway. Its called oregon scenic highway, the gorge etc. Filled with photo opportunities. Once youre past troutdale you are in the gorge, its awesome.
