2nd Annual WNC BBQ & Parkway Run!

2013 WNC BBQ & Parkway RUN
    May 11th, 2013

Join us for our 2nd Annual BBQ and Parkway run! Open to any BMW!!

Last year over 55 people were fed and over 30 cars came out to participate. The food was excellent and the tech sessions were presented by extremely knowledgeable presenters. We even had the local Police escort us to the Parkway entrance from the BBQ site. It was a parade of BMWs though Asheville with blue lights in the lead blocking intersections!

This year we will kick-off at Asheville’s Recreation Center Park where everyone can sit in on four tech sessions. Erik Rankin will host a “Tire Tech” session on how to read date codes, identify potential flaws, and wheel and tire fitment for your car. Next up Jeff Adelman will go over a very often overlooked and important maintenance procedure for the wiper assembly for our older cars. And Kevin Chinn from Creative Options has promised us a great tech session that will include a live demonstration on how to remove and properly replace upholstery, bolster foam repair, and DIY interior dye. We are currently working on the fourth tech session which will be announced soon. After the food is gone and the tech sessions are over we will leave the park and head up to Mount Mitchell. This is the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi River. Be sure to bring a jacket because even though it will be very warm at the park, the top of the mountain will be chilly.

Your Grilled Chicken or Beef Hamburger lunch includes sides, salads and iced drinks and costs only $6.00 per person; vegetarian plates will be available as well. The $6 includes lunch, tech sessions and all other activities. To register online visit www.blueridgebmws.com/news-events or by email at Mattkoppi@hotmail.com. You can also register in person at either the March or April coffee meets. Refunds will be available until May 1st or on the 8th if event must be postponed due to bad weather.

The tentative schedule looks like this:
    10:00-11:00 Show up and park
11am (ish) Coals will hit the grills
    Tech sessions will begin
    General showing off and “drooling”
    12:30ish Eat
Continue to show off and “drool”
2:00ish Leave BBQ area for Parkway run

The Parkway Run will enter the Parkway 2 miles from the picnic site and cruise to Mount Mitchell. Views, hiking trails, a concession stand, a museum and restrooms will all be available at the Mt. Mitchell site. A caravan back to the picnic site will be available for those who are unfamiliar with the area so that they can find their way home.

Also this year we invite everyone to pack their trunks with those extra parts and participate in our swap meet during the event. But please no parts cars on trailers. We have the park until 5pm so if you bring an additional car you can lock it up and leave it until after the parkway run.

I don't know how I can make it. Clemson graduation is Friday and I rent uHaul. You can imagine that might be a busy day. I've got a plan, though. We shall see.

If you're not chained to your job, this is a great get together! Don't miss it!

Weather is looking nasty all week across the East Coast. Will there be a plan B?

Dont jinx it! Last year the weather was looking the same way. So far Saturday is looking like a go. Don't have a plan B yet I will cross that bridge if we come to it.

Good time like last time! Glad we drove up the mountain with the group this time.

Hopefully the red and gray?(m50 swapped) e30's got home OK. We saw them pulled over so we stopped to see what was up. Definetly some engine troubles out of the grey 1. Hopefully it cleared up.
