Yes, I do know how to use it with aluminum but never tried stainless which is why id like to practice.

well, if you can weld aluminum, stainless is a piece of cake in comparison. with a tig it is pretty much just like mild steel.

Or just toss stainless wire in the mig in turn the voltage up.

            ^my mig doesn't have a gas inlet.
I'm pretty much looking to invest in a welder but I'm not sure which. Migs are more convienient but you don't get as much control and penetration as you do with the tig.

Tig is great for table top fab work but when it comes to stitching up something on the car it becomes a hassle.

I just bought a Lincoln 140 mig welder for 500 bucks, you can weld with flux core or use gas and use other types of mig wire. Best 500 bucks I ever spent, it's such a versatile welder for the price. I'm making a strut bar this weekend with it

craigslist. just start trawling. both my mig and tig came from there.

tig is very usable for automotive work. it just takes a little longer to set up.

the problem with tig is it is expensive and slow.

the advantage is that if it is metal with very few exceptions, you can weld it with a tig. with the right filler, you can weld some crazy things together that would be almost impossible with any other process.

if i could only afford only one, i would buy a tig but generally they cost about twice as much.
