well, if you can weld aluminum, stainless is a piece of cake in comparison. with a tig it is pretty much just like mild steel.sigpic

^my mig doesn't have a gas inlet.
I'm pretty much looking to invest in a welder but I'm not sure which. Migs are more convienient but you don't get as much control and penetration as you do with the tig.
Tig is great for table top fab work but when it comes to stitching up something on the car it becomes a hassle.

tig is very usable for automotive work. it just takes a little longer to set up.
the problem with tig is it is expensive and slow.
the advantage is that if it is metal with very few exceptions, you can weld it with a tig. with the right filler, you can weld some crazy things together that would be almost impossible with any other process.
if i could only afford only one, i would buy a tig but generally they cost about twice as much.sigpic
