Speedo not working. Sensor in diff?

So my speedo has not been working for a good while now. I was under the car yesterday and noticed that a sensor in the diff has a wire that's been cut. Can that be the cause of my speedo not working

Thats your problem. I also doubt that the wire was cut. Most likely it just broke from becoming old and brittle.

      Absolutely no question.

And like cabin said, it probably just broke. It happens right there as they get older and all element beaten and stuff..

lol. I'd say there's a possibility that it could somehow be related.

Seriously though, every e30 I've owned has had this issue from corroded pins or wires at the diff.

Go find a junkyard connector similar to that with a clean pin/wire and cut it off with as much of a pigtail as you can, disassemble the plastic connector to get the inner 90* pin/boot out of it.

Strip the wire back on that diff connector until you get to where it isn't corroded, then splice or solder it on, and heatshrink the hell out of it.

yeah that's the generic BMW two prong slide on connector. There's supposed to be a rubber boot over the sensor btw, that's probably why it began corroding. So that connector you can find on a lot of BMW's.
When you find one to cut off, make sure you get a lot of it's wiring with it so that you have room for error.
