delete rear battery box with mtech rear bumper

I have an 91 325ix that has battery box rot. I have been searching for a replacement trunk 1/4 panel with out any luck. I was thinking of cutting the rot out and fashioning my own sheet metal replacement and covering my (not-so) handy work with an mtech rear bumper cover. Anyone else resorted to something like this? I would like to believe it's a semi temporary fix to stop the spread of rust until I track down a good battery box but i haven't had much luck on that front thus far.

I always thought that iX cars look great (complete) with the rear effects complimenting the stock wheel well effects. Concentrate on making the repair water tight and rust free at the outset. You will forget it after the trim is in place.

Head over to a bodywork supply store and tell them you want to look at some SEM epoxy products. You can essential glue that sort of patch together with little or no welding required. Just 80 grit all of you lap joints and super clean the metal before assembly. Epoxy primer such as PPG DP is also a good idea before paint. Keep in mind that you can brush/roll on primer where you will not see it. Piece of cake!

I usually make little patterns from poster board and then trace out my patch panels. Its easy once you get going with it.
