vaccum valve for heater core - delete?

1991 m20b25. There's a vacuum activated valve in my heater core hose rat's nest. Can I just bypass this and seal off the vacuum connection near the brake booster? What was the purpose?

I found the M42 cleaning up the mess under the intake thread. Couldn't find an equivalent for the M20. Is it mostly the same?

I don't recall there being vacuum to the valve are you sure? That's the coolant thermostat BMW added when they did recall 93v-015 to keep boiling hot coolant from reaching the core when the car overheats, potentially leaking and burning the driver in the process. There was a lawsuit over this. I still have the letter from BMW from the early 90's. I would not delete it. The only "con" of this mod is that you can't use the heater core/blower as a radiator to cool your overheating engine by turning on full Heat. BMW doesn't want you to do this.
