Alright - have a weird issue with some exhaust or possible gas smell in the cabin in certain circumstances. Fact pattern:
- Only happens once per day, when I start up the car to drive home from work. It's been sitting in a covered parking garage for 8 hours or so. Does NOT happen from a cold start in the morning.
- Only lasts about 10 minutes, then goes away.
- Sticking my head into the engine compartment right after startup, it smells like it's coming from the FRONT of the engine. No stink from the exhaust side.
- No fuel leaks that I can see or find, and if anything the stink doesn't come from the driver's side or from the intake manifold.
- Have rebuilt the activated charcoal canister, checked for any leaks in any of those hoses. Have replaced the purge valve as well (junkyard replacement, still have the original just in case). Replaced the oil cap on the off chance it's fumes coming from the valve cover that go away once things heat up (IDK, it was cheap and needed to be replaced anyway).
Any clue what it might be? I had a fuel leak in one of the little rubber hoses that lead from the hard lines to the fuel rail, but replaced those back in March and there's no noticeable fuel leaking anywhere I can see.
Will post an update if the oil cap does it. Welcome to any and all suggestions, thanks!! :SOS:
