I think an Evo would be a more exciting autox and track toy so that's what I would go with. While powerful, I've never heard good thing about how S4's handle.

          No.

Don't buy an evo unless it runs and drives and you can verify everything about the car.

Buying someone else project, could be interesting or just a plain pain in the ass.

Both options are expensive. I feel the evo will be the more reliable of the two in the end. While i love both and still want a b5 avant the evo is a much more fun drivers car.

I gotta say you guys haven't made the choice any easier!

Evo owner is going to look at another stage 3 S4 with about half the mileage this weekend, and will keep me updated if he goes that route.

I gotta at least go check out the Evo if the opportunity stays on the table...

Why don't you ask why the Evo guy wants an S4 and consider if that scenario fits your life?

                    Personally, The B5S4.

I appreciate the Audi engineering much more, I really don't care for new Japanese car's other than the Subaru Forester XT (01-05). (Yeah, I've got weird tastes.)

The EVO is way more boy-racer status too...

                    Maybe get a B5S4 Avant...???

Why didn't he ever put the motor together? Seems really odd someone would spend a shit load of cash and then never put it to use.

Got deployed while he was getting everything together.

Now he's getting out for good, and wants to focus on getting his Civilian career rolling so the EVO project isn't a priority.

Honestly though, it sounds like if he can he's going to try to keep the Evo as well and just buy a second car. We both are very much take it or leave it about the deal. Nobody is too eager about it.

As someone who bought a B5S4 about 5 weeks ago, I'd say stick with it. It's a known quantity as you have already put so much effort into the car, plus you have already made plans to further modify it, so it'd be kind of sad to see it go without fulfilling your plans.

Plus many people (including the cops) see the Evo as a race car on the street, whereas the S4 is much more subtle, even if it has 600+hp. Maybe I'm getting older, but I'd rather be able to blend in a bit with the crowd when needed and the Evo would never allow for that, even with your foot off the gas.

B5 S4 = Gentleman enthusiast with an interest in speed.

Evo = I wanna go fast and race every modified car that I see.

With that said, I am biased. I miss by RS6'd B5 S4 everyday.
