It is, but I think the result will be worth it.

I'm currently rocking a green turbo NA as my project and a 335i f30 daily.

*edit: was sad to see you got rid of the blaupunkt toronto - my favorite all time deck. Can't argue with the Manhattan, I had the same in my 325ix build
It used to be, fortunate to have a private garage these days. Last I heard you were heading to the mountains? I'll keep an eye out for you. And yeah, I liked the Toronto better, but I couldn't for the life of me find someone to repair the screen. I still have it if you ever want to take a crack at it.

cant you use a silicone elbow to "move" the cone filter to sit in an area where you can box in in easy?

Is there a big difference between a cone filter and a panel type one in terms of flow? Couldn't you just make the front of the box the filter panel? like on some of the s14 Carbon boxes
        We're out there in here.

That's what I would do if I had another shot, then it'd run a flexible duct down next to alternator to hook into fog light brake duct area

That's basically what I'm doing, and then shielding the filter like the KAMotors setup. It'll be tweaked to the left a touch, and down. I bought a 45* coupler to cut as needed.

I think surface area is surface area at some point. I had the M20 (152 CID, 7200 Redline) at 52 in^2 or so as a requirement. I've never seen an S14 box that uses that filter style, most of the DTM boxes are external filter with a panel that attaches to the radiator support. I love that setup, but unfortunately the 6cyl radiators don't allow for it.

The S54 boxes do use that panel filter style though, very clean as well.

An integrated internal filter would be perfect. Not sure how it would cram into this package though :). Show us the way!

Printed the end cap for the canister shield today.

Still waiting on the inlet duct w/ hose, CF tubing, and some t-bolts.

You'd have to use a smaller panel more closer to the end than the s54 box as there isnt as much room On the Sid e due to slant angle etc . The oem s54 panel filter is hardly any bigger than the m20b25 one so it don't need to be massive

I'll try and get out for a video today. Pictures below pretty much show the final filter placement. It'll basically be that with a carbon shield over it (sealed), with the inlet to the canister being routed directly to the headlight duct. Somewhat on the fence about the headlight look. I'll leave it for now. The product itself is pretty sweet, couldn't ask for better fitment, and I tried sourcing it myself and came up blank. 3" is as big as you could go on the outlet, the high beam pretty much puts you right into the radiator support, the flex tubing barely fits around it. Don't have mounting finalized yet, but it does sit in there nicely attached to just the tubing. I used zipties for this. The provided clamps did not tighten enough to actually clamp the tubing on :(.

Going to test this shielded setup and running just this off the airbox back to back on the dyno: http://www.airaid.com/search/product...prod=700-430td

If the carbon canister dealy proves to be restrictive, I'll ditch it for the grey filter.

There's your sound clip, 80% exhaust/wind noise. You can hear the additional grumble the box adds though. Butt dyno says the low end has improved a bit. First real drive with the box buttoned up (intake is pending), nothing broke or caught fire. The headlight duct stayed put. There looks like there might be one spot rubbing, but I can't tell conclusively. Hopefully will be on the dyno in a few days.

Sounds good and an incredible attention to detail.

Can you recommend a dyno for my before and after pulls ?

Thanks! I used CES Motorsport in Monroe. He was helpful, and has an in ground 2wd dynojet that was easy to get on. Usually lots of funky turbo E36 stuff there too. I'm doing all my pulls on my tuner's dyno in Wilmington this time, but I'm sure CES could help you out with a baseline. Was $60 for 3 pulls with a printout iirc.

Carbon tubing showed up today, but not early enough to get it cut. Will have to knock that out on my way to the dyno tomorrow. the 4.625" OD filter crammed into the 4.5" tubing nicely. Large McMaster clamp fit just fine as well, and the fitment on the printed end cap was good. I think I'll use 3 small machine screws and some RTV to seal it up. Interested to see if it proves restrictive or not.
