If you only mod the selector rod and not the shift carrier, the carrier will still be offset to the transmission. I could see that 10deg+the raised pivot from this shifter preventing you from getting...Leave a comment:

I have some stuff from Valcas and it's good enough for the price.
For me, repairing with that Valcas part is easier/cheaper than re-shelling the car.

Yeah the pad offset appears to be to accommodate a regrind cam, I assume the side profile difference of the pad vs the others should be consistent across the pad, but this would change the effective cam...Leave a comment:

My interpretation of the intent wasn't "get an e30 around the track the fastest", it was to backdate the intent of the CS to the M3 platform.

Yeah drilling bolts in general sucks, but once you yield/work harden them from install and then again snapping it off, it's going to be pretty crap to drill if it comes to that.
