    Speed Governor

Did E30's come with speed governors? My car has one, 206 kph according to speedo. Two weeks ago I could go faster, but it was after a fresh ECU reset. WTF is going on?

afaik no they don't and PLEASE don't drive that fast. You will kill yourself or someone else and you will lose your license if you get caught.

well they have r3v limiters, which would limit your speed at top gear.

they do have govenors but the after market chips remove them. duno why you would be able to go faster after a fresh ecu reset, problably somthing to do with relearing the chip... i duno.

87 325i. I was only going that fast because there were 3 or 4 cars going together in a chain last night at 4 am. No body else on the road. It's really annoying, I had another 1200 rpms left to go, and it just cut power.

my top speed before chip was like 220 or so on a 318is (91) and after chiop is whatever speed it is when it hits the redline, havn't tried it and i doubt im going to. too many tickets no more speeding for me:( the chips remove the govenor. and the only limiting things is the rev limiter.

no no no no no. No E30s came with speed governors. the only speed governor on an E30 is the brick shaped body which isn't especially aerodynamic. my car is "limited" to ~125mph, it just doesn't have the power to overcome aerodynamic drag.

no no no my car had a speed limiter because it stopped at that speed, iv had it higher since the chip and the fact that the chip says it removes the speed limiter and raises the rev limiter.

what chip company said it removed the speed limiter? there isn't a speed limiter, Nando is right. Obviously there is a rev limiter, and the chip doesn't remove that either, it just changes the limit.

and it stopped at that speed because of the brick shape of the car and lack of power to overcome wind resistance, not because of the chip. And I'm sure since you bought a $25 ebay chip that whatever claims they made about it's performance and abilities are 100% accurate.

the chip should give you more power, so of course you would be able to go slightly faster. don't forget to take into account things like windspeed and direction, the road you are on (hills and whatnot), etc.

I have a chip in my car and the top speed is exactly the same. it just doesn't have enough power to go any faster, unless I were to drive at 125+ for 5-10 miles. then I might break 128mph...

It's definately a speed governor. It kicks in at the exact same speed going uphill, downhill, or on flat. It's still pulling and I can feel it "lift" and it sounds like hitting the rev limiter, bounces up and down. It feels the same as an E46.

it was a 40$ ebay chip:) and i know it doesnt eliminate the rev limiter i didn't say it did.

E30s can't go 155mph. there is no governor, you can argue until your face is blue but it's not going to be true. also, the fact that you bought your chip on ebay pretty much proves my point..
