well just to state it happens, i slipped a tooth at around 6200. checked the timing after and the tensioner was not loose but had definitely given slack, and the timing was off (this is after about 10k on the belt since it was last done) if BMW thought the pin and spring was important, and after market parts are still available, the tensioner and waterpump housing still has the mounting points for it, i see no reason not to spend the 6$ and use it. although i know plenty who never use it.
Anybody have experience with eurotuning.us chips?

I didn't and wouldn't suggest not using it, just that after the fact it is not high risk to remove if need be. You said you eyeballed the TB tension which is the likely reason it slipped so I think we are saying the same thing...use the pin and new spring when tensioning the belt.well just to state it happens, i slipped a tooth at around 6200. checked the timing after and the tensioner was not loose but had definitely given slack, and the timing was off (this is after about 10k on the belt since it was last done) if BMW thought the pin and spring was important, and after market parts are still available, the tensioner and waterpump housing still has the mounting points for it, i see no reason not to spend the 6$ and use it. although i know plenty who never use it.Seat Shocks....I have passed the baton to John Christy from Ninestitch.
