Here's a little background on the Turbo version of the car.
They dominated Showroom Stock racing in the late 80s like something terrible.
Beat out every MR2, Turbo Volvo, etc...
I got a chance to drive the back to back 1987-1990 race car driven, and still owned by racing champ Victor Van Tress last summer.
I also got a chance to drive another enthusiast friend's 505 Turbo... and WOW was it quick.
I've driven both M42's as well as M20's, and I can very surely say - once the turbo starts spooling, the Turbo-Intercooled 505 Sedan will pull on any stock E30 (non-M).
The only gripe with the Turbo Peugeot's is with the cylinder head. It's prone to cracking.
For a big sedan, these cars handle like a dream. The Peugeot suspension is world-class, which is also why the old ones are #1 in Africa and the rest of the world.
....just not in America lol.
And here's me in the world famous "Red"..

You make a good case for these cars. If I were to run into one for sale it would be hard to turn down.1985 M10b18. 70maybewhpoffury. Over engineered S50b30 murica BBQ swap in progress.

I think I mentioned awhile back in this thread that my family had a white '81 505 Turbo diesel with a 5 spd. It would scoot right along. Once the turbo spooled up it sounded like it had a small jet engine. It also got amazingly good fuel economy. I think on one trip with the car fully loaded we got 40+ mpg. My dad finally sold it in the early 90s with over 200K miles on it, but the entire passenger side electrical system took a crap. Headlights to taillights, nothing worked on the passenger side (apparently).
505s are cool cars, I'd be down to drive one. They are a good car.

so i learned here:
that apparently peugeot used a non-standard t3 flange, so with their mani you'd be stuck with one of the two stock turbo flavors they came with.
the later ones have a bigger exhaust AR and are more laggy, but you'd be able to mitigate that by using it on your (i assume, have not verified) higher-compression NA engine with a better intercooler than that factory top-mount.
past:
1989 325is (learner shitbox)
1986 325e (turbo dorito)
1991 318ic (5-lug ITB)
1985 323i baur
current:
1995 M3 (suspension, 17x9/255-40, borla)

One of my dads good buddies back in the 80's/90's used to do a lot of racing. Used an e30 m3, Porsche, etc. At one point he raced with a 505 Turbo and apparently he did pretty good with that car'84 Alpine 325e (Gone)

It's really about loving the car to the point where you wouldn't care.
Quite different than E30's - as their values are literally soaring.

I really haven't had many troubles electrically with the car.
However, my dad recalls that in the late 80s, the entire Bosch K-Jet took a shit. The thought of that is a little funny.
Now my car is pushing somewhere around 400k but it runs like a champ.
Fires up at first turn of the key after several months of non-usage at a time.

In 83 (europe), 85 (usa) it was a normally turbocharged engine.
In 86, it got the intercooler, and in 88, it got the electronic boost controller.
I've driven an '86 with a FMIC and t3/t4 and it was kooky fast.
Made stupid power, I literally was scared at how quick it was.

After 3 hard days of carefully putting her back together again with a new smile, here she is in all (or most) of her glory. I took it to several familiar spots.
First, the house where it has lived since 1985; the house where it was photographed in front of at my parents' wedding; and back around the iconic San Francisco Bay Trail which runs through my backyard on the island.
I think it really hit me after I finished the day's work this evening with the front fascia all back together (minus the fog lights which are lost in the jungle, otherwise known as my parents' garage).
But I'm really content with the car's look at this point.
I'm going to keep the car's side clean with no side molding in order to preserve the natural Italian Pinninfarina lines ... or at least until I get tired of it.
Well, what is there left to do for now?
Install the sunroof with its gasket
Install the sunroof cable
Find some Bosch Pilot fog-lamps with amber lenses (won't likely be installed until December when I come home again)
Carefully paint the lion on the engine grille silver with a brush
Install the side markers (no side molding baby!)
...and that's about it.
I cannot thank the Peugeot community enough for all the help and inspiration that has been imparted onto me throughout this long and beautiful ride.
Please enjoy the photos from this evening - I know I will, as I go back to school for the fall and won't be around the car until the wintertime :D
Cheers,
Sina
