    Cold Air Intake solution

First step: opened the Euro grills and the Smiley housings with a dremel to get air from the grill area. Then cut a 3" hole in the foglight blank...
...screened it, painted it, and then cut a 3" hole in the tray behind the headlights.

Installed a 90' resin elbow from the foglight opening to the airfilter space.

Bought airfilter, silicone tubing, stainless sleeves, clamps, 90' 3-->2 1/2 silicone elbow and a port to go from the 3" AFM down to 2 1/2" throttle body (port on the bottom for ICV).

Made a template from posterboard scavenged from my 3rd grader's art supplies and cut plastic to create separation from the engine compartment. Topped with factory hood gasket.

Cool idea. Any way you'd be able to actually check and compare intake temps with and without?

              1 x Stainless Steel Joiner, 3.5" (JOI000380) = $9.99

              aluminum corner $7.99
I had the stainless screen left over from something, not sure what that would cost. Then some rivets, a couple nuts & bolts to mount the hoses to the factory brackets etc.
Total $105.26. And obviously a bunch of time.

Nice work. I have been tempted to do a similar type of ram air intake but was advised against due to some air pressure explanation that I didn't understand. Something about adverse effect of increased intake pressure, it needs to draw air from low pressure area, and why OEM grills have much of the ducting blocked off. I'd love to hear that it is bunk and that I can get more power by channeling more air to my intake so let me know if you looked into all that.

I wasn't really looking for a ram air effect; it's not an airtight chamber by any means. I just wanted there to be cold air. I don't really have a way of measuring intake air temps but I am quite certain temps are colder now than they were before :)

I read something like that too, but think it was directed to funneled air.
Like a hose from atmosphere being tubed directly to your intake or something.

A factory airbox wouldn't fit. If it did I would've done that! I do think that the cold air setup I made is better than just a filter inside the engine bay. This is how it was setup when I bought the car:
