    86 E30 Coupe/ M30 Swap Car Project - VA - $1050

    CAR IS SOLD

Been away from the e30 community for awhile but wanted to post my e30/m30 swap project up For Sale... See general description below for an idea of what is, and is not, going on (copied from my craigslist ad).

I have an 86 BMW 325 chassis that I am swapping a 3.5 liter inline 6 cylinder engine into. The car is not running and the swap needs some finishing touches. The engine is the m30 from a European 735i (1983 e23 model)... Also referred to as the m90 by some?? I bought the e30 shell about 2 years ago and the engine is from my dads car after he got a newer 5 series. I bought most all parts to do the conversion and the following is installed(custom motor mounts and brackets from Germany, e34 oil pan and pump, e34 brake master cylinder, e28 535i radiator, e30 M3 transmission brace and mount). The diff is the stock open diff for 86 325e, not sure of the ratio? The transmission is a 5 speed from the same car as the engine. All the wiring has been completed by a Tech from an independent BMW shop in Charlottesville. The main hurdle for me has been the driveshaft, I have an e30 325e driveshaft but its too long so you'll need to sort something out with research or fabrication. Then exhaust (headers and downpipes are included with sale), distributor cap, fuel pressure regulator, coolant lines, battery and shift linkage are the last things that I can think of.

I got a bit over my head on this project but someone more mechanically inclined could finish this up and have a very strong track rat/autox car or daily driver. The body is fairly clean and was resprayed about 4 years ago.The interior has the Recaro sport seats (drivers is tan with a tear, passengers is black good condition). A roll cage was installed as you can see in the picture but has been parted with already, ie not included in sale. The wheels are 14 inch Basketweaves with 90% Kumhos on them. Car needs to be trailered.

$1050 CASH. Post up any questions and I'll do my best to answer.

i've been looking at your for sale ads on craigslist for a while. tempting.

you do know a custom driveshaft is only ~$200, right?

you said the car is not running, i assume due to the driveshaft. but does the engine start up?

Thats what I've been told, just no luck with any of the local shops. Dont have distributor cap or fuel pressure regulator so I havent tried to turn over engine.

                Postion of M30 in e30

What position is the M30 engine? Did you set it 2.5" into the firewall? Where did you get the engine mount brackets?

Tracked down some records. Motor/Tranny has apprx 190k.

At 160k the following was done:
                    -Polished/ machined upper cylinder head
                    -Replaced rockers
                    -Replaced rocker shafts
                    -Replaced cam shaft
                    -Replaced set of head bolts
                    -Replaced water pump
                    -Replaced fan clutch

                    At 120k
                    -Replaced Clutch master cylinder
                    -Replaced Clutch slave cylinder

I have receipts for all the above which total over $6500.... Work was done by Europa Motors in Baltimore. Chassis has 171k. CLEAN TITLE in hand. Someone should take this on before I have to pull the motor and sell the chassis and motor separately.
