    PA - 1987 BMW 325is track car

For sale is my 1987 BMW 325is track car. I am the second owner, and built it for NASA TTD. It is also legal for EMRA ST3 and SCCA DP, and almost legal for Spece30.

The chassis has 280k miles on it. The engine has 99k, and is out of a 91 325i. This was put in by myself in June of 2010, and hasn't really been driven since. I put about 500 miles on it just to make sure it's running well, not leaking, etc... I put a new timing belt and water pump on it, as well as an IJ crank scraper, before installing it. Also adjusted the valves and put a new valve cover gasket on it.

The car is 2420lb with 1/2 tank of gas and no driver. With a 160lb driver, the car corner weighted 50%. F/R was 55/45%.

All front suspension wear parts were replaced within the past 5k miles. The guibo, CSB, timing belt, water pump cap/plugs/rotor etc... are also fairly new (less then 200 miles on the timing belt and water pump). It has a freshly resurfaced flywheel, Sachs clutch, new slave and master cylinder. Fluids have been Mobil 1 Synthetic and Redline since I bought it.

The interior is gutted, but the power sunroof is still in place and functional. It would not be out of the question to turn this car back into a street car at all. However, the headliner, speakers/radio, rear seats, rear parcel shelf, etc... are all removed, so you'd need all of that.

The car ran 1:04's at Pocono North with a less-then-optimal-driver (that's me...). I also ran 1:29's at Summit Main, and 1:21's at NJMP Lightning. The car in it's current state ran a 14.6@92 MPH at Maple Grove (stock, it ran 15.4@88 ).

The car needs a full cage, fire system, spec legal exhaust, and some nets to be Spece30 legal. Suspension is ready to go. This was my intention, but realistically it won't happen anytime soon, and my priorities are changing.

    *ISSUES*

-The hood has a crease right in the front, the PO drove into something. He also backed into something, as the rear tail panel has a dent. It's covered up with a decal currently. Neither are really noticeable beyond 10 feet.

The idle has been slightly rough since I bought the car. The engine that's in it is the third engine, and they've all done it. I re-used some original parts such as the ECU, ICV, etc... through both engine changes, and just haven't had the motivation to chase down the cause, as it's really not an issue at all. It just has a little bump in the idle every now and then, fluctuates maybe 50 RPM's or so every now and then. Sounds like it has a very mild cam, actually. It runs absolutely perfect other then that, the power is great. If it's a big deal to you, I can try to swap a few common idle-affecting parts and see if I can get fix it.

At this point you might be wondering why it's had 3 engines. The first had 270k miles, and although it ran fine, it made me nervous driving the car 4 hours to the track with a 270k mile engine. So I swapped it out with a spare 120k mile m20 that I had. Go figure, the first track day out, it lost oil pressure and I believe spun a bearing. So I picked up this 99k mile engine from a guy in NY and swapped it in. It's definitely the strongest of the 3 engines, feels very smooth and powerful for an m20.

    Price: $5,000

Not looking to trade at this point.

I'm not familiar with the latest rules, I haven't checked for a few years. The major thing is a full cage, everything else should be fairly minor in comparison. Off the top of my head: Exhaust, window net, and swap out the steering rack for a stock one.

Bump for brand new springs. I pulled the springs off of this to put in my DD, so I ordered a new set of H&R Race springs for this, which I'll put in next week. While I had it apart I checked the condition of each corner, everything looks great! Brakes, bushings, hoses, etc... This thing is ready to go!
