Exactly what other cars are you referring to? As far as general interest goes...the e30 m3 has made front page on several mags and continues to do so. They rarely mention M cars without talking about the e30. Even young kids know what the e30 m3 is. I get asked if mine is real all the time. I highly doubt people will.become disinterested. Disinterested in paying $40k sure but then you only to find one buyer willing to pay and apparently they are out there.
I agree that there are always gonna be people willing to pay the asking price, but there isn't too many out there with that kind of cash. And you are definitely right, younger generations are fully aware and those are the ones that want them the most and unfortunately the ones that cannot afford it. I've followed the ones on auto trader for several months while I was in the market. Those are still posted at auto trader, with the prices decreasing not drastically but nevertheless decreasing. I was told once that the seller will sell to what the buyer is willing to pay and while I did not want to hear it because I was selling my car, he was right. I really hope that the market holds and continues to increase mainly because of my barn find.

First off, there are people out there with that kind of cash. I've seen many, many Alvin Tan's come and go throughout the years. They aren't necessarily E30 guys either but mostly general car collectors. The M3 has crossed over and has been targeted by many enthusiasts besides BMW enthusiasts. To these guys, the M3 is their first E30. So compared to the 100K-500k+ cars you may see at classic car auctions...$30-50k really isn't much to lose sleep over, especially for a car that stands to continue appreciating over time. In fact, quite a few new E30 M3 owners also have E46/E92 M3's, M5's, some Porsches, Mercedes, etc.
Sure if someone needs to sell their car in a timely manner, they will take less to get it sold but make no mistake, this is a seller's market. You will find those are the ones with sellers remorse as more often than not...they cannot find another comparable M3 for the same money. This just happened here with APM. While what you say can be true in general (about sellers selling for what buyers are willing to pay)...I find it often isn't the case with really nice E30 M3's. Most sellers of really nice M3's aren't in a hurry to sell and price their cars high. We aren't talking about people's only car here...most people can sit on them. Most know what they are worth and aren't going to get lowballed. A lot of owners are hesitant to sell but are often convinced by wives or friends/strangers constantly offering to buy.
Hagerty has compiled some data for classic cars which include 911's and M3's. Look at the M3 graph...
https://www.hagerty.com/valuationtoo...port?vc=852276
Of the 5 cars they considered hot collectibles the M3 showed the most appreciation. More than even the 911. The value of the top tier cars nearly doubled within a year! Will they double again? probably not...but they could. I don't see any downward movement at all in the graph (except for bottom tiered cars in the bad economy). It probably will but there has been so much appreciation, it won't make much difference and time is on our side as more cars get swapped/parted/wrecked/shipped out of the country. The graph starts in 2007 but we know the M3's bottomed out in late 90's/early 2000's before beginning to climb. I believe they have been climbing steadily (virtually flat when the economy was tanking) since as most people restored them and sold them for more money because everyone wants to at least get back what they put in.
I don't particularly care for this 69 Shelby GT500 Mustang but I know that it's a very valuable car to quite a few people. The one who wants it most will be the highest bidder.

I like the graph! I'm hopeful that it will continue to increase, even thought I won't be getting rid of mines. The market has indeed increased, but like I'm every market, they tend to decrease within time. I just hope it doesn't happen.
