Rust bucket or not $8500 is cheap for this car even if it needs new floors. Heck, there's a guy in here that want's $8k for an s14 engine alone! I see suspensions pop up for $3k and crappy interiors for a grand so not sure why it hasn't sold.

According to the thread on s14.net:

"Someone I know went there spent and hour trying to start it- wouldnt start - body lines dont line up - needs tons of work and he has a body shop and still passed on it"

Also, that $8k s14 for sale here is a rebuilt running motor. This one is far from it, it would seem.

Someone will take on rebuilding it at some point I'm sure, but I don't know that I'd see this project as some sort of steal.

Other than the rarefied S14, it really isn't better than taking a low rust eta and adding a 24V to it and at the end of the day, you're going to have a hell of a lot more fun with the modded eta (and be less 'scared' of making mods to it) and your insurance rates are going to be far less, too.

Everyone's knocking themselves out trying to be millionaires by shining old turds, but that's not why E30s and old 911s were fun--it was because they were cheap to get into! If they're not cheap anymore, there's no reason to go there.

              hahahahaha.

the ad's a complete joke. should have disclosed way more - especially the car's salvage title and flood/rust history. either the seller isn't an informed m3 owner or they're trying to find an uninformed buyer.

Tell me what I am missing here?

The parts along are worth his asking price.

                a) If the S14 is running well = $5k

                b) Stock E30 M3 suspensions = $2k?

                c) Stock M3 interior, cluster (incl rear bench) = $1k

                d) The front/rear bumper, trunk/wing, flares, C pillar = $2k

                e) extra tranny/diff = $1k

                I'm at 11k already?

I'd swap everything into an E30 donor and make a project out of it. Sounds like a reasonable price assuming you want all the above.

A salvage car with rust/flood issue is not worth the hassles of repair in my book.

And if you dont want all the parts (s14), sell them. Some of these are NLA and if they dont command the above price, they will in the future.

spoke with the guy, he is firm on the price i think its worth it considering it still has the s14.

                      What you're missing:
                      A) The S14 doesn't run and requires a complete rebuild. Local BMW expert (Doylestown, PA) could not keep it running and recommended complete tear down two years ago. (Incedently he recently placed a value of $3k on the car)
                      B) e30 M suspension - needs replaced due to massive rust
                      C) interior is moldy and dingy from sitting uncovered in a barn for 15+ years
                      D) tranny and diff - condition unknown

If you're hourly rate for swapping long-gone parts from a wreck to a donor shell is slightly lower than that of a Chinese factory worker, you have a spouse (or parents) that appreciates an endless, money pit of a project in the driveway for the next several years, and you have the fortitude to tear down, post, ship, and satisfy buyers expecting quality parts then this car is for you.

Hey, it is worth a shot. At $1200, I may be silly, but I will be the proud owner of an Alpine E30 M3. It will match by Alpine E30 Cabrio.

And the interior is not original m3 either, its sport seats according to the ebay ad
