Off the top of my head here are some of the common wear problems that have recently been replaced:
oxygen sensor
spark plug wires
spark plugs
cap and rotor
water pump and tensioner
timing belt (last summer, about 2k miles ago)
valve cover gasket
intake manifold gaskets
every single wear part on the tranny has been replaced, including all the seals. the clutch is new and the flywheel was resurfaced/lightened
all new shift linkage
new guibo and center support bearing
Redline fluids in tranny and diff
new oil and filter every 2k miles/3 months (Castrol GTX)
new thermostat
new tie rods, control arms
I was about to order THR eyeball arm control arm bushings, but the car currently has RTRS urethane offset control arm bushings
RTRS urethane subframe bushings
stainless brake lines with rebuilt brake calipers
new clutch slave and master cylinders
heater valve replaced
new front wheel bearings
new front upper strut mounts
new rear shock mounts
stereo is all rewired with 16ga double insulated Monster cable
new OEM exhaust with less than 6 months on it
all exhaust gaskets less than 6 months old
valve job done last summer
new tail light gaskets
new serpentine belt and accessory belts
new fog light lenses
all 10 new front spoiler clips
new antenna grommet
tires have at least 80-90% tread left
Right now off the top of my head thats all I can think of, though I know there is more. That is just maintainence stuff, that isn't to mention all the mods.
Right now I think there are 3 issues with the car as it stands. First, the water pump gasket is leaking coolant since I pinched the gasket when I installed the water pump. The gasket is less than $1, I just haven't had the time to fix it. I top off the coolant every 3-4 weeks.
Second, the diff (4.10 LSD) has some play in the gears and it clunks when you shift harshly at low RPMs, or if you step on the throttle hard after the gas not being on at all, or if you lift the throttle completely after getting on it hard. To be honest, I haven't driven an E30 without this noise though. A lower mileage diff or a rebuilt diff would fix it. I live with it because its so common and if you are a smooth driver its not an issue.
Last is the paint on the rear quarter panels. It may be able to be buffed out by a pro detailer (a local guy said he could do it, but I know the clear coat is wearing thin) or it could be sanded and re-clear coated. Here are pictures of the quarters. They look great from 5 feet or if the sun isn't hitting the car directly, but its noticable up close in direct sunlight:
Thats it. If I kept it, I was going to buy reclinable racing front seats and then save to repaint the whole car in a copper color. After I fixed everything I mentioned the car is pretty damn close to perfect.
