Well fellas, I need to sell my E28. I have one (or two) too many projects going on right now and with school and full-time work there just isn’t time to fit everything in. I have had this 535is for just under a year now and it has been fantastic. I wouldn’t hesitate to say that is has been the best car I have ever owned. It starts up easily every time, passes emissions with ease, doesn’t burn or consume any oil and is just a pleasure to drive all the time. I just rolled over 170,000 miles, so I have put just about 12,000 miles on it since I started driving it last March.
Since I bought it I have done a TON of work to get everything up to par and I have all of the parts receipts as proof if anyone is seriously interested. Here’s a list of the maintenance parts I have replaced and work that has been done:
New Nissens radiator, water pump, t-stat, bleeder screw, and hoses
New Meyle “HD” upper and lower control arms
New Meyle idler arm and tie rods
New front sway bar links
Rebuilt throttle body with a new throttle position switch
Un-gunked the idle control valve (it was yucky)
All new intake and vacuum hoses and a new air filter
New fuel filter and rubber lines at the back of the car
Good used replacement exhaust system from the manifolds back with new gaskets, hangers, and hardware (got it from the murfinator)
New Dogbones
New “M535i” differential mount
New upper front strut mounts and spring pads
New speedometer sender in the differential
Redline 75w90NS in the transmission and Redline gear oil in the differential
New bulbs all around as well as the popular “quad brake light mod”
New Hella E-Code low and high beams – These are awesome, I’ll never go back to the DOT junk!
E24 hood shocks so you can open the hood waaaaay up and access everything at the back of the engine compartment
Brake booster to master cylinder seal
ATE Super blue DOT 4 fluid
Probably some other stuff I will remember and add in later…
And now for some of the other stuff I have done:
Bilstein Sports and H&R Springs set for a nearly level ride height with a full tank of gas
E32 front brakes with PBR deluxe pads and Tar-Ox slotted rotors – It stops on a dime and gives you 9 cents change… It’s impressive
A nice set of 16x8 ET23 BBS Style 5s with 5000 mile old 205/55/16 Yokohama Avid H4S all season tires – No spacers required with these tires but I have a 3mm set I can throw in if you want to run 225/50s
Maplight mirror – I still have not wired this up, just never got around to it
Carpeted dash cover – I love these things since they eliminate glare and Colorado is a sunny place… The dash does have some crackage…
AFM cover (I know... I know...)
New Roundels
The car drives very well, stops incredibly well (the ABS works!), and is very smooth, comfy, and quiet. It’s a dream on the highway and very composed in the twisties.
The body is not perfect unfortunately. I don’t know where I’d rate the paint on a scale from 1 to 10, but it’s all there. The hood, roof, and trunk lid don’t have the depth that new paint would and there are some spots where the clear coat looks to be getting thin. Naturally there are some door dings and scrapes as any 22 year old car would have, but from 10 feet it is very respectable. I constantly get compliments on this car and I always find myself turning around as I walk away from it. From 10 feet it’s a great looking automobile but closer than that and you start seeing the little scrapes and scratches. For a driver it’s fine but if you are wanting something prettier it will need a paint job. The good news is that there is absolutely no rust anywhere on this car. The bottom of the air dam has some scrapes, the right front bumper rub strip is missing (but I have a replacement I have not installed yet), and the left reverse lens has a chunk that popped out of it. Everything is straight though and it drives down the road just like it should, so I’d say it’s very solid and just in need of a little cosmetic love.
The interior is very nice with just a little bit of wear on the bolster on the left side of the drivers seat. Last time I checked all of the power seat functions worked except for maybe the passenger head rest. The drivers head rest DOES work though! The headliner is pretty clean and doesn’t have any rips, and the sunroof works though it probably needs to be greased since sometimes it needs a little help to close all the way from the full open position. The carpet is nice and clean, the shift boot is nice and in tact, and the gauges all work properly. The OBC works but I have to reset it back to US measurements since I recently removed the battery. The heating and ventilation stuff all works including the servo for the fresh air flap. I replaced the faux top vent with a working one from an earlier car and it all works well.
Hopefully my description gives a fairly vivid and accurate description of the car, but if you have any more questions feel free to ask. I’ll be happy to take pictures of specific areas as well. I realize that the market for E28s isn’t as strong as it was last year (thanks economy), but my starting price is $4300. If this is way out of line I will consider other offers, but it’s a very solid car that shouldn’t really need anything any time soon since I have touched pretty much everything recently. I would absolutely feel comfortable driving this car ANYWHERE in the country, and I would be happy to pick up a buyer from the airport or help arrange shipping with a company that I have used three times with great satisfaction. Thanks for looking!
The strut brace belongs to my 6 series ;)

It's currently snowing outside, but I will try to get a few interior shots this week.
