Wow what a cool find. I was looking for one of these every day for 10 months. Craigslist, R3v, ebay, facebook. Every day, for 10 months. I eventually found one in a shop in the middle of nowhere with dumb luck. Broken, in a garbage bag for $250.
Since you are "testing the waters" I submit this- I once read another knowledgeable 318is poster say something to the effect of "BMW made a lot of mistakes, but the 4.10 in this car ain't one of them". Assuming you are on stock power (or less? lol) I would recommend keeping and/or rebuilding that LSD rather than swapping. The 168mm has the advantage of being 20 lbs lighter than the medium case and it just kind of ends up being genuinely perfect for the car it came in. And they are *really* rare so reverting to stock when it's gone is nearly impossible. At the very least, try a 4.27 in your car before you commit to selling the 4.10. All IMO
I also invite you to join the E30 discord server if you want to talk it over further with a group of dedicated people.

Thanks for the tip! I'm thinking I will actually hang onto it. The 4.27 is going in the car this week. I doubt the weight difference will matter much given the location of it, but if I start road-tripping more I'm sure that may get annoying unless I'm on some fun roads. Will check out Discord as well!Wow what a cool find. I was looking for one of these every day for 10 months. Craigslist, R3v, ebay, facebook. Every day, for 10 months.
