    Rear Light Upgrades

High Performance Lighting Upgrades for Spring 2025

Spring is Coming, meaning Long Drives, and Distracted Drivers fiddling with the Radio, Phone, Wipers, GPS, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Lord knows what else. Be a survivor, show a Brighter Profile to help others SEE and avoid hitting your beloved BMW with Bigger, Brighter, More Reliable lights!

It's the perfect time to upgrade lighting if your baby is still tucked in for the winter... Available for both Early and Late (facelift) lights.
How do you want to stand out ?

Upgrades include high output bulbs to maximize rear light output:
    >>Plus Two (2 tail OR 2 brake lights per side, versus one of each)
    >>>>Plus Four (2 tail AND 2 brake lights per side)
    >>>>>>Plus Six - the whole enchilada, adds two tails and one brake each side!
    >>Bulb Sets - safe, high output bulbs for tail, brake, turn, reverse and headlight improvement;
    >>>>Or... whatever your needs and budget dictate... custom solutions are possible.

For a visual - look at the back of your car and imagine all red lens areas lighting up more brightly.
    For reference,
    > the added tail light is next to the stock tail light, in the brake light sector. Double the lighted area, triple the output.
    >> The added brake light is in the unused 'Rear Fog' sector. Double the lighted area, boosts output by 67%.
    >>>The third tail light is in the rear fog sector with the extra brake light. Lights up EVERYTHING!

Plenty of other options available, just ask. So you know - NO LED, just nickel plated high output incandescent.
ALSO -- I am buying damaged back covers, I use them as 'organ donors' for more light output from YOUR lights.

Dozens of these upgraded lights are in R3Vlimited members' E30s - will yours be next?

Tail Light Improvements keep them off your tail.
Headlight protection saves headlights from breakage.

You just ask me, I'm the only salesman. I do not have a website, let me know if you have any problems, or if you just want brighter lights. I can explain the options and cost, but it's driven by what you want. If your lights work normally, then we can talk about making them brighter, adding more bulbs, more filaments, etc.- lighting more of the lens area so they look BIGGER and BRIGHTER.

Send me an email or PM and we'll take it from here.

You are correct - please forgive me. I forgot to mention all my other posts with pictures, prices, and plenty of value... allow me to correct this failing...

          Add 2 tails, $65
          Add 2 brakes, $110
          Add 4 tails, OR 2 tails + 2 brakes, $200
          Add 4 tails AND 2 brakes, $240

Early models- some upgrades are a tad more, + $25 due to metalwork required.

Here is a post showing possibilities for early lights:

Here is a post, showing one of the facelift (late) upgrades, Plus Four - note five bulbs where the factory has only four.

          Here is another:

Hope this helps correct the lack of info in my original post. I have plenty more pictures, so if you want more, I can post more.

PS - you may be assured I am much better better at upgrading lights than I am with posting on the forum... obviously!

That does help. What does the light check system think of these upgrades?

Actually, it depends... if it works fine now, it should continue. For the 'more elegant' upgrades, it may show a false negative. Many times it is a fault in the check relay, not the lights (which work fine). I recommend relays for 'larger' upgrades (adding 4-6 lamps) to draw power from a different fuse. This helps maintain full voltage and nominal current through the stock circuits. My larger upgrades for E24 six and E28 five series include these relays with all the wiring - plug and play.

In my E28 and other models, the circuit feeding the power antenna is a handy source of power and is fed by another fuse (8 Amp). Most upgrades draw between 1.6 to 7 amps MAX, and I don't have any reports of any fuse blowing.... I do not have an easy answer to tapping the E30 power antenna circuit - the connectors are weird -- round rubber things, so I would only suggest that IF you get check panel warnings (false negative) then I suggest running a second power lead from the front to feed the relays. Fused, of course. The E24 and E28 power antenna connectors are standard 1/4 inch flat terminals, easy to access power from them.

All of this is best handled in a conversation with the individual, which is why I offer this on the forum. I am not a Wall- Mart, I treat each person's request one at a time, offering solutions to fit specific needs. Been doing it this way for about 35 years.
