For sale is a 1991 BMW 325ix. This car is a truly unique and very rare car having with about 2000 rumored to have been imported to the USA. As an owner of another 325ix, I purchased this car a year ago in MA in hopes of having a parts car or to fix this car and use the other as a parts car. Before the last owner the car was a NH car meaning that it did not need to have a title to transfer ownership. Instead only a notarized bill of sale was necessary, and in the case of this car present for all of the owners. I purchased the car from the last owner with another notarized bill of sale and have documentation. That being said, unless you live in a state which does not require a car to have a title to register it, you will need to conduct a title search to have a new title created which I was told costs a hundred dollars or so. If you currently own a 325ix, like in my case, this car was an invaluable investment for parts on this car for which used parts are very hard to come upon and new parts are very expensive. I purchased the car about a year ago for a just under $3500. The car's interior is in near-perfect condition. Front and back seats are perfect, carpet dash, door panels are all great as you can see in the photos. This car also has the side valences-over the wheel arches and on the running boards-which are desired by many owners due to their extreme rarity. From my observation, the strut housing all around the car appear to be in great condition with very little surface rust -see pictures. The four wheel drive system seems to be working perfectly as well. The most important issue to consider with the car is the transmission which gets stuck into drive. I have driven the car and the engine runs strong and the car drives with the transmission in drive without a problem. However, the gear leaver seems disconnected and when trying to shift into park or reverse it does not engage the other gear. Not being a transmission expert I am unsure as to what is wrong but that issue will need to be addressed, a rebuild kit on bavauto is only $345. Other than the transmission there seems to be very few other issues for a 1991 vehicle. There are a few small things like a finicky driver door which opens but needs to have the handle pulled two times to actually open fully. As far as rust is concerned, I tried to take as many pictures as I could to document the rust. There is a bit near the gas cap as well as at the bottom of the doors, see pictures. The glovebox is also missing. Like explained earlier, this car was purchased as a parts car to do a full interior swap, suspension sway, and drivetrain swap. I also knew it was going to be important to have access to these rare parts on the 325ix as they have gotten extremely expensive and are actually difficult to find. For example, the front strut housings cost $837.95 each to replace, bavauto dot com, meaning it would cost $1,675.90 in parts to change just the two front strut housing. Not to mention the special ix oil pan, the transfer case, and two differentials which are each about $700 USED. The engine bay of the car is very clean and rust free. There are a ton of parts in the engine that can go on the ix and as stated the car starts right up and runs beautifully.
When I purchased this car I did a very rough pricing analysis to see the value of the car vs. what I would have to pay to purchase the parts separately(assuming I could even get them):
Front Strut Housings :$1,675.90
Side skirts specific to ix: $700
Spare set of ix specific wheels: $500
Transfer Case: $700
Front Diff : $700
Rear Diff: $700
Oil Pan: $500
Engine: $1000
Drive axels (4 -ix specific): $1500
Misc Engine + Electrical Parts: $1000
Interior, heated seats, door panels: $1500
Other misc interior: $200
TOTAL: $10,675.90
Even though the above estimations are rough, I figured that having such a great and fun car to drive meant that I needed to invest in a source of parts in order to make and maintain the ULTIMATE BMW 325ix.
