Wow... just wow... I day-dream about a motor like this. Sure a 24v swap might be cheaper, but there's something about a simple bolt-in and go engine...
In for leak-down results too...

Yes, MM design. The theory is more surface are more fuel molecules exposed for more efficient combustion. Results are same power with more efficient burn and less fuel consumed. Some don't believe in it, but they did a lot of dyno testing and swear by it.J. Farina

Hey gang! I am the mechanic that built this motor for Kali.
I am crazy crazy busy right now and I really apologize for not being more available for questions. Between work, racing, and life in general I have just not had the time and brain power to even think about this. OK, so enough of that.
The motor is solid. Most of the info I have on it is in that build thread. I used the best of everything on this motor and though I didnt record every number all the measurements and balancing was done to perfection. I have no idea why the rings did not seat properly, but the blow by on it has gotten progressively worse. I have never had that problem with another motor and I did the break in the same way as I always do. This these rings should have lasted hundreds of thousands of miles. I will get on the leak down as soon as humanly possible.
If you have specific questions, let me know.
I do love this F'ing thing and I hate to see it go, but the car is going the direction of a dedicated track rat and needs another HP to be competitive in its class.
I have been around a lot of cars, Im a racer, a mechanic, and a driving instructor; rally and track.. I have never in my life heard anything or been in a car that hits me right in the chest the way this thing does. It is simply an amazing thing to hear and feel. Yes, you can build a faster engine, but what this thing does to my adrenal glands with the throttle response and pure roar cannot really be described in words. I will be very sad to not be able to drive her again.

I have them. Gotta dig up the folder. If I recall it was 202 to the wheels. But that doesnt really represent how well the thing responds to throttle and how hard it pulls. I put down more than that with my S52 and it runs essentially the same lap times. Also beat an e39 M5 in an 1/8th mile drag :)J. Farina

So I did a compression test and leak down today and cylinders 1-5 are fine all within a few psi and % of each other. Cylinder 6 is another story. There is barely any compression and the leak down held next to zero air passing right through to the crank case. Im guessing the rings are just gone. I've never seen rings that bad, but the only other possibility is damage to the piston, but I have no idea how you could get a gaping whole in a piston big enough to leak like that. I don't know. Im sorta bewildered a this point. Bottom line, head needs to come off. Assess the problem, move forward. The parts are still worth the money and I still think it just needs to be re-ringed and put back together. With the plug and play megasquirt, this would be a pretty basic and worthwhile rebuild.
The only thing I can think is that the injector got clogged or something and that cylinder got hot? So hard to say.
Every other cylinder looked fine, plugs were perfect. Engine still runs great even on 5 cylinders.
With all of the quality parts used and the attention to detail on this build, I just have to call this a fluke.
Bottom line is, worst case scenario.... you need to replace a piston and re-hone the cylinder?
The sum of these parts FAR exceeds the price of $3,000. If you can do this work yourself, this is still a crazy good deal.
I can see about getting the single piston and ring set from MM mechanic at a discount for you as well. They have always treated me really well.J. Farina

when I bought a single set it from them wasn't very expensive, relatively. I doubt the piston is damaged.Comment
