I want one, once the german translation is fixed!
Achtung! Engine bay decals "I tuned it myself!"

That's awesome. If the translation is off, it's even better for me. A german speaker would surely get a kick out of the poor german verbiage on a "factory" sticker.Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"Comment

So Just to let everyone know, I am glad the bad translation was pointed out but I still haven't had anyone assist in a proper translation. If I get a good translation I will be sure to use it on the next batch if the demand is high enough to place another order.
I have used multiple translation sites other than google and they all say the same thing --> This engine can explode! I programed on my own
As far as I can tell this is exactly what it should say. If someone on the site is from Germany and German is their first language please confirm this.
Hopefully the stickers are still functional for the intended purpose, humor for a mostly American audience.
Thanks for all the purchases. Everyone who has paid has their order in the mail. EnjoyLast edited by RagtopE30; 06-28-2014, 07:21 PM.Comment

I am German so I'll contribute. First off, I dont see "programmieren" working well here, thats more for PC Software programming. In case of cars, majority of Germans use "tuning/getunt":
Hence:
1) "Achtung! Dieser Motor kann explodieren! Ich habe ihn selber getunt"
(Attention! This engine could explode! I tuned it myself)
This would make your original choice grammatically correct.
"Explosionsgefahr!" Is what i personally would use instead of "Dieser Motor kann explodieren" because it is more commonly used in Germany when things could explode or are flammable. (Danger of explosion!)Comment

Thank you very much! So how would you phrase the original choice so that it makes sense to a German in the way that I originally intended? I will be using your suggestion in the next batch if the demand is there for more to be made.
Maybe:
Explosionsgefahr! Ich habe ihn selber getunt. ??Last edited by RagtopE30; 06-28-2014, 07:39 PM.Comment

I would rather say:
Achtung Explosionsgefahr!
Dieser Motor ist ein Eigenbau!
That actually says that the engine put together by the owner.
The word tuning would never be used by BMW, therefore it seems a little odd to me.1990 kashmir beige BMW e30 327i

The difference between linguistically correct and understood is interesting. I had HS French and in my 1st visit to a French bakery I asked for "du pain" and they looked at me funny (which the French often do anyway). It seems that asking for bread in a bakery is liking going to a car lot and asking for a car
The German on the sticker could say "your fly is open" and I wouldn't know it...or think it any less amusing.

Thank you for the follow up. The fact that I am using the word "Tuning" is part of the humor. Of course they wouldn't use that word. They also would never say that their cars or engines had a risk of exploding! Hence the humor.Comment

Thank you. The deficiency has been noted and will be addressed on the next batch. Please allow this to return to a "for sale" thread.
Due to your ongoing interest in the grammar of the sticker I will assume that I should put you down as a definite buyer on the next batch of stickers. Thanks again for your assistance.Last edited by RagtopE30; 06-29-2014, 02:38 PM.Comment
