Hey, I'm looking at buying these pistons. Did a quick check on the math:
Crank Stroke/2 + rod length + compression height should equal deck height
81/2 + 135 + 30.25 (1.191") = 205.75 mm
M20 block height is 206.7 mm so the piston top is 0.95 mm below the deck and compression ratio is 7.5:1
Seems to me you'd need custom 136mm rods to make this work.

no way you need custom rods, just take some off the deck as needed. the blocks seem to be closer to 206.2 anyway but that is immaterial89 E30 325is Lachs Silber - currently M20B31, M20B33 in the works, stroked to the hilt...

Comments?I'm almost positive the pistons are designed with a fresh decking on the block/head in mind.
These are a VAC shelf piston. I can give them a call to answer any questions you have.
You are saving $185 buying them from me. These are BRAND NEW! I literally took one piston out of the box to admire it's beauty, thats it.
I'll send you a PM, so I can answer any other questions you have.Comment

Forgot to mention I'm using an 84 mm crank. These would work PERFECTLY with 81 mm crank, 135 mm rods, M20B25 block decked 1 mm. Add 0.140" head gasket if you want lower compression for a turbo setup.Last edited by dvallis; 04-08-2016, 09:07 AM."And then we broke the car. Again." Mark Donohue, "The Unfair Advantage"

I don't claim to be an expert, but as I understand it, the only difference is the hardware. MS3-pro uses a waterproof case, one PCB, and no ribbon cables inside. This allows it to be mounted in harsher environments.
You basically pay $400 for a rugged hardware design. I would say it is absolutely worth it for some applications, but the glovebox of an e30 is a stable enough environment for the original MS3/MS3X hardware.Comment

So you can run these forged pistons with standard rods? I was under the assumption if you have forged pistons you also need forged rods or it throws the balance off..Comment
