Dinan performance chip for 173 ECU (E30)

Turns out my ECU is 524 not 173, so going to try and sell this and get the one for 524 (open to trades if you have the correct one) This is a Dinan Performance chip for a 173 ECU. Will ship to anywhere in US (shipping included in price)

Uumm, just so you know... the 524 ECU is the same as the 173 ECU just the updated version
Do some research, there are several versions that came in the 87-91 325i e30's

I heard it may cause knocking if you put the wrong chip in it? Just thinking I'd rather play it safe considering its my daily driver.

The knocking will not be the ECU.
If you put in a chip with a really aggressive advance curve and run low octane gas that would do it.
Or if your engine is not tuned up well, plugs, valve adjustment clogged injectors, this will have an effect as well.
Shouldn't hurt anything to try the chip
If it is for 93 octane here in California you might have a problem

Not on my car, but it was installed on the previous owners 89 325i with a 173 dme

As mentioned the 524 and 173 are the same DME, the 524 just came in the automatics and have a speed limiter (which should be removed by the chip).

Plug it in and go.
