That sucks! I guess I will have to try to source out someone to make them here in So Cal. I am sure that it can be done given enough $$$ and having enough made at one time. I will work on finding a shop that does this kind of work.

I'm not sure if we should start another thread or just keep this one going but here is what I have done so far.

I contacted several manufactures of plastic badges. One has actually responded and we have been trading emails since my last post. I sent him pictures that I found here of a close up of the badge and of one mounted to the front grill of a mtech car.

Unfortunately all I had was pictures so there is still some work to do but here is what he told me he could do:

              Hi Jim.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

              Your quote follows:

              Size - 1 3/8" x 7 1/8"
Thickness - 30-mil (same thickness as a credit card)
Printing - up to four colors one side
              Corners - square

              Production time is 7 workdays.

He also quoted me a cost of under $10.00 per badge if we buy 50 or less and a slight discount if we buy 100. I think they are going to be too thin and we still need a backing to attach them to the grill and the adheasive (double sticky tape?) to hold them on the trunk.

I responded to his last email describing to him how I thought they should be held on to the grill using two small bolts but I am not sure if that is the way we want them. I also asked if they could make them two to three times thicker. I did this because it seems like the thickness of the M3 badge is more than a credit card.

Now is where I need some of you old time Mtech guys and interested parties help. If you have one and can give me the exact size we want I will pass that along as well as how we think that we should attach them to the front grill. We may want to think of someway to make them more theft prof or just keep them stock. Let's get-r-done! Input please.

              Cheers,

              Jim

I have an extra trunk badge on my desk (not for sale). It measures 4 5/8 x 7/8" with raised lettering. The later style, shown in the pic is like a sticker but I'm sure it'll be cheaper to reproduce. Just make sure the "BMW" is chrome instead of silver/gray. The rear badges attach with 3M double sided emblem tape. The front badges have two threaded screws coming out of the back and a plastic retainer piece that screws on the back to secure it to the grill.

Since the front and rear are the same just make the rears, then makeup some type of grill mount so they can also be used in front.

From what I know about Jack, he doesnt do stuff cheap or flippantly. The source he was pursuing was probably the best next to OEM (or better) and most of r3v probably couldnt have afforded even a single set let alone the demanded multiple sets per individual. If I rememebr correctly these weren't going to be had cheap. People are immensely turned off by the thought of paying upwards of 50-75 dollars for a single set of badges... Best of luck with this endeavor guys!

Thank you for your input. I have passed it along to the manufacturer.

I totally understand and agree with you Paladin. In a perfect world hopefully we can keep the price point per badge down to around $20 but time will tell. I don't want to compromise the quality due to the cost.

I only need two of these for my car and so, for me, if it costs more than $20 it would still be worth it to complete that minor details for the build. I am not looking to make anything thing on this adventure but need a decent quantity of badges to be produced so I can get the manufactures interested it doing it. If I could find them right now for $50 each I would save myself a lot of time and effort and just buy them but they are like little E30 diamonds and anyone that has them is holding on to them.

I plan on meeting with Jack next week, if the rains don't delay me driving the vert north, so we can discuss his efforts producing the elusive mtechnic badge. Hopefully with his help and a little effort on my part we can get-r-done.

                      Cheers,

I may be mistaken on how the badge is attached. I was thinking of the ACS badges. The BMW grill badges attach with 2 thin metal tabs that protrude out of the back that you bend around one of the grill slats. Simple and effective.

Thanks for the input Berry, Hopefully I will see some original badges next week. I was told by a friend that they have tabs but if we are making them would nuts and bolts be more secure against theft or should we just keep it simple. Another member told me that they have seen folks use screws that went into the plastic badge which may be less expensive to manufacture than having a metal piece molded into the plastic.

                          Cheers,

This badges are not going to be cheap, I started looking into this, in tooling along they have quoted me from$200 to $480, plus some company want an order of 500 minimum, cost around $23 per badge plus $357 for tooling and art work, another company require 300 minimum $29 per badge plus $480 for tooling and art work, the cheapest is $200 tooling and $12 per badge, minimum 300 but they can only reproce them in silver.
That is alot of money to lay out without any real commiment, I just need the front one.

                              Hi Mike,

Good points, this is not surprising to me. There is a lot of work involved and really there are a limited number of folks that will be interested enough to pay, lets say $30 per badge. Although we have not considered art work and other things that might pop up so maybe $35 per badge is a good estimate for now. I for one would pay that.

Unfortunately the rain and a little work has kept me from meeting with the gentleman that has already spent a lot of time and money to help make this happen.

We are expecting rain tonight and maybe the following day. I am hoping for some sunny weather so I can put the top down on the Mtech and go for a drive to the big city for a meeting. Once that happens I should have more information.

I am sure that all of us would like your help if you have researched possible manufactures so please stay tuned. Let me get a little more educated on this and we can work together to make it happen.

                              Cheers,
